ABOUT THE ROLE

The Outreach Manager will play a key role in recruiting top, vulnerable, and deserving students to the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at ALU and ALCHE. This individual will be responsible for building partnerships with schools, NGOs, and other organizations to ensure that the program reaches and supports talented young people from underserved communities. The ideal candidate is passionate about education, social impact, and equity, and has a strong background in student recruitment, community engagement, and partnership development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Recruitment and Outreach Strategy:

  • Design and implement outreach campaigns to recruit high-potential students for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.
  • Develop and execute targeted recruitment initiatives to reach underrepresented, vulnerable, and high-potential students across various African regions.
  • Leverage digital platforms, in-person events, and grassroots community engagement strategies to connect with potential scholars.
  • Leading a team of volunteers/alumni to support the outreach efforts across the continent.

Partnership Development:

  • Build and manage strategic partnerships with schools, NGOs, community organizations, and government bodies to create strong recruitment pipelines (HALI, Camfed, UNHCR etc).
  • Identify and establish relationships with key stakeholders who work with vulnerable and underserved youth.
  • Collaborate with partner organizations to organize information sessions, recruitment events, and application workshops.

Engagement with Schools and Communities:

  • Conduct outreach visits to secondary schools and community organizations to promote the program and guide potential applicants through the process.
  • Coordinate with school administrators, counselors, and community leaders to identify qualified students and raise awareness about scholarship opportunities.
  • Foster relationships with alumni networks, previous scholarship recipients, and community leaders to act as ambassadors for the program.

Application Support and Selection:

  • Provide personalized support to prospective students during the application process, ensuring they have the necessary information, resources, and guidance.
  • Work closely with internal teams to streamline the application process and support the selection of scholars.
  • Monitor and evaluate recruitment efforts, ensuring alignment with program goals, including diversity and inclusion metrics.

Data Management and Reporting:

  • Track and analyze outreach and recruitment data, maintaining records of outreach activities, prospective applicants, and partnerships.
  • Report on recruitment progress, challenges, and insights to senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Use data to refine outreach strategies, improve recruitment processes, and ensure the highest impact on underrepresented communities.

Ensure the safety and well-being of all young persons and vulnerable adults with whom we deal, by adhering to ALU’s comprehensive safeguarding policy, maintaining a zero-tolerance approach to any violations of safeguarding standards.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Communications, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in student recruitment, outreach, partnership management, or a related role in education or social impact organizations.
  • Proven track record of building partnerships with schools, NGOs, and community organizations.
  • Experience working with underserved or vulnerable populations in Africa is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and build relationships with stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, partners, and timelines.
  • Familiarity with scholarship programs, education systems in Africa, and a passion for empowering youth through education.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools is an asset.
  • Willingness to travel across regions to engage with schools, NGOs, and communities.
