1. INTRODUCTION
BOMA is working to lift 3 million people out of extreme poverty by 2027. Our mission is to provide people and governments of African drylands with adapted economic inclusion programs that materially reduce extreme poverty rates and enhance their ability to withstand multiple crises. Founded 15 years ago to eliminate extreme poverty among pastoralist women in Kenya, BOMA has since transformed the lives of more than 704,352 women, youth and refugees in the drylands of Africa. Responsibilities
2. SEED PROJECT SUMMARY:
To address the brewing youth unemployment crisis and youth radicalization challenges in many parts of Northern Kenya, BOMA is currently implementing a youth-focused adaptation of REAP. The Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Economic Development (SEED) for Vulnerable and Marginalized Youth in Northern Kenya, will leverage BOMA’s extensive experience and established community partnerships within the region while helping pastoralist youth acquire the necessary skills and resources to build sustainable livelihoods and lift themselves and their families out of extreme poverty.
3. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
3.1 Manage the Rural Entrepreneur Access Project (REAP), BOMA’s program that helps low-income youth start businesses to uplift their living standards
3.2 Provide mentoring to the agreed number of small business enterprises.
3.3 In a collaborative process with the community (Participatory Rural Appraisal) and BOMA Location Committees, target and identify eligible youth for the program, based on BOMA’s criteria.
3.4 Meet with established business groups, help them make decisions about their business and offer other guidance as needed.
3.5 Conduct/deliver business and savings skills trainings and mentor (provide guidance and support) to the businesses in the designated location and surrounding manyattas
3.6 Survey individuals and collect data on living standards, participation in savings groups, and other relevant information.
3.7 Represent BOMA in the designated location, including as a representative for the organization in local development committees.
3.8 Report on the businesses and savings groups’ performances to the Field Officer.
3.9 Perform a minimum of agreed visits per week to the business groups and savings groups for which you are responsible and upload all data collected at a minimum rate of once a month.
3.10 Support youth in developing viable business plans and tracking performance.
3.11 Ensure smooth interaction and collaboration between program participants and non-participants to foster peer-to-peer knowledge sharing and promote inclusive community development.
Requirements
4. QUALIFICATIONS
4.1 At Minimum of a Diploma in Community Development, Social Work, Business administration, Entrepreneurship, Youth Development, or a related field.
4.2 Certification or training in coaching, mentoring, or business development (e.g., youth entrepreneurship, financial literacy, or microenterprise support) is highly desirable.
4.3 Minimum 2 years of experience managing livelihood, community development projects or youth focused economic inclusion programs. Proven experience in data collection is an added advantage.
4.4 Strong understanding of microenterprise development, savings groups (VSLA), and basic financial literacy.
4.5 Proven track record in mentoring or coaching youth entrepreneurs, especially in rural or marginalized settings.
4.6 Experience in facilitating participatory community engagement and working with local governance structures.
4.7 Possess excellent interpersonal skills; candidates should be able to relate well with participants and Field officer.
4.8 Be self-driven, and able to work with minimal staff supervision
4.9 Must be a native of the respective ward you are applying for with working knowledge of English, Swahili and the local language.
4.10 Have a valid motorcycle license and has experience on how to ride a motorcycle
