Job purpose
Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, the Controller is responsible for the accounting and day-to-day transactional activity of the organization. This includes the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Duties and responsibilities
Financial Reporting and Compliance 35%

- Prepare monthly financial statements
- Prepare monthly budget vs actual variance analysis for HQ departments and consolidated
- Manage and coordinate annual audit and 990 preparation with external auditors
- Assist with local country audits as needed
- Develop grant reporting templates based on awards and oversee regular financial reporting
- Manage state filings in US
- Develop and maintain grant reporting for various donors on monthly and annual basis as required
Accounting and Financial Systems 50%
- Maintain accounting systems and processes
- Coordinate with Africa controller regarding financial systems and process changes
- Implement and maintain of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures.
- Responsible for maintaining all of the organization’s accounting entries and records using B2P’s accounting software
- Review and approve all monthly financial closing entries
- Review monthly and annual revenue to budget and donor tracking software
- Review monthly balance sheet reconciliation of accounts
- Prepare time sheet allocations
- Oversee full cycle of accounts payable
- Oversee full cycle of accounts receivable
- Review monthly standard journal entries
- Review monthly account reconciliations
- Assist with new systems and software rollouts and training
Treasury Management 10%
- Oversee and approve weekly cash transactions including but not limited to wire transfers, ACH payments and inbound cash
- Manage daily banking relations
- Prepare short term cash projection as needed
Payroll and Benefits 5%
- Review and approve monthly payroll processing for the US and expatriate staff
- Prepare monthly payroll entry
- Coordinate 403b contributions and annual filing
- Oversee and review employee compensation and benefits including medical, expatriate medical, dental, vision, HSA, and employee retirement plans.
- Coordinate hiring and offboarding in financial systems as needed for US staff
Qualifications
- Knowledge of, and passion for Bridges to Prosperity’s mission
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
- 5+ years experience in related roles with progressive responsibility
- Strong accounting knowledge with experience in all areas of general accounting
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong team player and ability to build collaborative relationships; proactively able to step in to resolve problems and support other team members as needed
- Demonstrates flexibility in work style to accommodate changing priorities and fixed deadlines
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Self-motivated, capable of seeking quality solutions and continuously focusing on process improvements, while keeping the needs of the business in the forefront
- Knowledge of basic internal controls and auditing processes and is committed to the importance of accounting standards and controls.
- High proficiency in Excel
- Professional experience in working for an international non-profit social enterprise or similar private sector business a plus
- CPA preferred
