Bridges to Prosperity (B2P) is an international non-governmental organization that specializes in the planning, design and construction of rural bridges. We are seeking a motivated, qualified and highly experienced Field Officers to support our Ethiopia Program

Job Summary

The Field Officer is crucial to the TRAIL program’s success, responsible for field assessments, community/government engagement, capacity building. The Field Officer strategically plans and executes field trips for assessments, Fika rollout, and maintenance pilot inspections, optimizing safety efficiency. Key responsibilities include facilitating Fika collection, training government staff and providing follow-up support. The role also involves capturing high-quality visual documentation for B2P’s communication and impact demonstration efforts. The Field Officer will also provide on-the-ground support for piloting maintenance frameworks and institutionalizing rural access principles, contributing to program sustainability. Duty stations include: Anhara, Oromia, South and Tigray

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Trail Bridge Site Assessment and Data Management
    • Supports local government in using Fika Collect for site identification and preliminary assessment of potential trail bridge sites.
    • Coordinate with local officials and communities to identify needs in their domains using Fika digital tools..
    • Logs and verifies all collected data for B2P’s bridge request database.
  2. Fika Collect Contribution and Capacity Building
    • Facilitate and monitor transparent Fika Collect contributions, ensuring adherence to established guidelines.
    • Develop and deliver training to government staff on Fika contribution.
    • Monitor and evaluate Fika collection initiatives, documenting lessons learned.
  3. Program Implementation Support- Maintenance and Institutionalization
    • Support in field-level implementation of the pilot maintenance framework and execute assigned maintenance activities.
    • Identifying, documenting, and promoting local best practices for sustainable maintenance.
    • Provide on the ground support to build partner capacity in rural access initiatives.
  4. Project Documentation and Communication
    • Capture high-quality photographs and videography of fieldwork activities, project progress, and community engagement.
    • Maintain an organized digital archive and contribute to field updates, success stories, and case studies.
  5. Adherence to Protocols and Program Support
    • Strictly abides by B2P’s safety, security, and travel protocols, and code of ethics, acting as professional ambassador.
    • Actively supports the overall success and strategic objectives of the Ethiopia program.
    • Undertakes other duties as assigned to ensure effective program management.

Minimum Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Rural Development, Geography, GIS, Statistics, or a closely related field.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in development field operations, including data collection (e.g., TaroWorks, ODK, KoboToolbox), social surveys, and community-level activity management.
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating training sessions and providing follow-up support, preferably with government stakeholders.
  • Experience in photographic documentation for communication purposes is a strong asset.

Special Training

  • Training in community mobilization, participatory approaches, project monitoring and evaluation, basic photography/videography, or data analysis software is highly desirable.

Competencies and Other Requirements

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and exercise sound judgment in complex situations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Fluent in spoken and written English and local language of the duty station (mandatory)
  • High physical fitness and stamina for extensive fieldwork and travel in challenging terrains.
  • Basic photography and videography skills for visual storytelling and reporting.
  • A valid driving license (motorcycles) is an advantage.

Employees will spend most time in the field, living modestly in local accommodations and using local transportation. Expecting walking on hilly terrain to bridge sites.
