Job purpose
The Data Manager reports to the Data & Analytics Senior Manager, and will lead the development and implementation of data privacy and data management activities. The Data Manager will establish and maintain robust data governance frameworks, ensuring data privacy compliance, data quality, and operational efficiency across B2P's multi-country operations. This role is critical to enabling evidence-based decision-making while meeting regulatory requirements across our operating regions.
Duties and responsibilities
Primary roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Data Privacy & Compliance
- Act as the organizational Data Protection Officer
- Lead compliance with country-specific and international data protection regulations
- Manage and maintain the Privacy Policy, ensuring alignment with evolving legal requirements
- Develop and implement training and awareness initiatives across the organization to ultimately improve data privacy compliance
- Lead procedures to evaluate and monitor third party data partners
- Assess data privacy compliance across B2P and partner with department leads to address areas of non-compliance
- Participate in technology evaluation processes to assess data governance implications of new tech products and new system implementations.
- Monitor for, and lead the response for any data breaches, including incident documentation, stakeholder notification, and regulatory reporting where required.
- Participate in consultations with external partners on specific initiatives to ensure data sharing activities are compliant with internal policies and external regulations
Data Management
- Develop and implement Data Retention and Data Quality policies and procedures
- Lead and maintain data mapping for data flows across the organization
- Advise the Information Systems team on streamlined usability of data collection and management tools, and overall organizational data architecture
- Collaborate with country teams and department leads to understand data needs, identify inefficiencies in data workflows, and support the implementation of solutions that balance operational requirements with compliance obligations
- Develop and implement training and awareness initiatives across the organization to ultimately improve data quality and effective data management
- Participate in consultations with external partners on specific initiatives to ensure data sharing or collaborative activities are in line with internal policies and procedures as well as with sector best practice.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- 3+ years relevant experience in data privacy or data governance
- Experience with data privacy and protection compliance activities
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple priorities simultaneously
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience in a remote or hybrid work environment
- Strong attention to detail with a systematic approach to process documentation and implementation
- Personal initiative that allows you to excel in an unstructured workplace
- Strong desire to self-educate and stay up to date on current regulations and trends
Desired Experience:
- Experience serving as a Data Protection Officer
- Familiarity with data protection frameworks in B2P’s areas of operation
- Experience with Salesforce
- Experience with data mapping tools and data flow documentation
- Experience working with multicultural and globally distributed teams
- Non-profit sector experience
Working conditions
This is a remote position with some travel (up to 25%) required including visits to country offices, participation in compliance activities or meetings, and conducting trainings. Preference may be given to candidates located in or willing to relocate to one of our areas of operation: Rwanda, Uganda, Zambia, Ethiopia, or Kenya.
