Building Tomorrow, an international nonprofit organization working to provide literacy and numeracy for all children, is seeking multiple Regional Coordinators (RC) to join our Building Tomorrow-Rwanda team. As an RC, you will be at the forefront of our programs, overseeing a team of approximately 20-30 Building Tomorrow Fellows across at least 150 government primary schools and their surrounding communities. As an RC, you’re more than just a coordinator; you are a coach, a partnership builder, and a pioneer helping to shape Building Tomorrow’s footprint in Rwanda. You will be responsible for program implementation, stakeholder accountability, and the professional growth of the Fellows under your leadership.

THE ORGANIZATION

Started in 2006, Building Tomorrow supports community-powered learning in rural areas in sub-Saharan Africa (Uganda and Rwanda). Through 650 Building Tomorrow Fellows, 5,230 government teachers, and over 20,000 Community Education Volunteers. Building Tomorrow has enrolled over 216,000 out-of-school children and reached more than 950,000 learners with our signature Roots to Rise (R2R) literacy and numeracy camps. Between offices in the USA, Uganda, and Rwanda, Building Tomorrow has a full-time staff of over 350, just eight of whom work outside East Africa. Building Tomorrow has received funding and recognition for its innovative work from Echoing Green, Big Bang Philanthropy, Clinton Global Initiative, US Library of Congress, and Forbes Magazine. POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

As the senior-most person in the field, you will help build the Rwanda Country Office from the grassroots up, shaping the culture and programmatic success. The position is full-time and field-based. The position reports directly to the Program Manager or their designate.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Fellows’ Coordination and Leadership Support

  • Lead a cohort of 20–30 Fellows, ensuring they understand program targets and are empowered to deliver high-impact learning results with respect to literacy and numeracy gains, amongst others.
  • Support Fellows’ personal and professional growth, fostering a social-entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Participate in the planning and evaluation of the BT program, including training and partnership building within assigned districts.
  • Provide regular support and supervision to all fellows within assigned districts, identify the training needs, and ensure follow-up is attained.
  • Coordinate logistics for cluster selection, transportation of materials, partner visits, and training events.
  • Travel frequently via bus and moto to remote schools to provide hands-on field support.

Partnership Building and Accountability

  • Coordinate Fellow onboarding at the national, district, and sector levels.
  • Collaborate with District Education Units and Social Affairs to identify schools for Fellows’ placement and to align BT interventions with government priorities.
  • Represent Building Tomorrow at local forums to report on Building Tomorrow activities in the region and to advocate for quality and inclusive education.

Monitoring and Management

  • Conduct regular field visits to schools and clusters to ensure Fellows are supported and are effective at their posts.
  • Uphold Building Tomorrow’s rules and safety guidelines, prescribing disciplinary action when necessary in consultation with leadership.
  • Ensure all field-based staff practice appropriate security and safety protocols for themselves and the organization's property.
  • Ensure all program data is collected, cleaned, and entered into our MEL systems, and ensure Fellows and stakeholders understand the importance of data.
  • Provide regular support supervision to all fellows within assigned districts, identify the training needs, and ensure follow-up is attained.

MUST HAVES

  • Ability to link your experience and skills directly with the Building Tomorrow behaviors (listed below) and skills Building Tomorrow is seeking in the ideal candidate.
  • A flexible, enterprising mindset that thrives in a start-up environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an uncompromising attention to detail.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Experience and proficiency using Microsoft and Google workplace products.
  • Fluency in Kinyarwanda and English.
  • Ready to reside in rural Rwanda.
