About the Role:

BURN is looking for a Government Relations and Policy Lead in DRC who will be responsible for developing and executing effective government relations strategies that represent the organization's business plans and interests.

Candidates will show a good understanding of the policy environment and political processes in the DRC. Ideally, candidates will have excellent interpersonal skills as well as a keen eye for detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of Corporate Affairs, Head of
Communications, Head of Electric Finance and Head of Carbon Strategy to create cross-departmental project management tools and processes that enshrine the company's mission, support the policy
team initiatives, manages crisis communication, and ensures that all external communication and activities are aligned with the organization's goals and values.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the execution of projects primarily across DRC.
  • Assist in the execution of projects in other geographies as might be assigned from time to time by the Director CA.
  • Create and manage tools and project plans for effective government relations.
  • Represent Burn’s business plans and interests to government entities and ensure all activities are aligned with the organization's goals and values.
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of the policy environment and political processes.
  • Develop project management tools and processes and manage multiple projects simultaneously with excellent attention to detail.
  • Work closely with the Director of Corporate Affairs, Head of Communications, Head of Electric Finance, and Head of Carbon Strategy to create cross-departmental project management tools and processes that enshrine the company's mission, supports the policy team initiatives, manages crisis communication, and ensures that all external communication and activities are aligned with the organization's goals and values.

Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Bilingual – proficient in English and French languages.
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience in government relations, public relations, or related roles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and departments.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of best corporate communication, crisis management, and media relations practices.
  • Must possess exceptional writing skills and be able to compose engaging and accurate content that resonates with external audiences.
  • Strong communicator who works well independently and with a team
  • Must be resourceful and take initiative even when given minimal direction.
