Join us to Improve Health Equity for 5 Million People!
CareMessage is the Health Equity engine of the United States. Our mission is to leverage technology to improve health equity for people from low socioeconomic backgrounds, with a core focus on the safety-net organizations that serve them best: federally qualified health centers (FQHCs), free and charitable clinics, Indian Health Service (IHS) health facilities and Native American-focused health centers. The CareMessage platform allows healthcare organizations to communicate with patients at scale, prompting patients to action via technology-enabled solutions designed to increase access to care, improve clinical outcomes and address social drivers of health.
Nationally, CareMessage is proud to work with over 400 customers in 43 states. Since 2013, safety-net organizations have leveraged CareMessage to reach over 17 million low-income patients with over 350 million text messages.
Founded in 2012 at Stanford University, CareMessage has raised over $35 million from Google.org, William K. Bowes Jr. Foundation, Pershing Square Foundation, Y Combinator, Schmidt Futures, Twilio.org, Direct Relief, Biogen, and many more.
We are looking to hire a User Experience Researcher who will be responsible for scaling user research best practices across our organization and independently delivering generative research projects. As the solo User Experience Researcher, you will work closest with our Product Designers and Product Managers to help validate customer and patient problems through generative research, as well as supporting the testing and design of solutions through evaluative research.
User research and human-centered design has been a part of our organization since our founding and the responsibilities have been owned mainly by Product Managers and Product Designers. We are finding it is time to bring in an expert to help us move faster on answering key questions. You'll work on a small, diverse, female-led team and report to the VP of Product. As a SaaS enterprise product in healthcare, you will work across projects that center the buyer, the day-to-day user at the clinic, and the patients who interact with our service through text and voice messaging.
Who you are
You are a self-starter, detail-oriented, agile and you ask the important questions to help you understand the true nature of the problem. You take a collaborative approach to your work and assume good intentions of others. You have a history of successfully designing solutions for B2B companies and are driven to understand ‘why' in order to effectively communicate improvements. You are comfortable interfacing directly with customers and technical team members. Above all, you are empathetic and listen to others, work to understand their needs and effectively communicate your own needs in an effort to move the team forward in a sustainable way.

  • Build an understanding of our users' needs, both healthcare organizations and the patients they serve
  • Understand the processes we follow to develop user-centric solutions, and develop an initial proposal on process changes you wish to push forward

Within 3 months, you'll...

  • Gain an in-depth understanding of our internal teams, customers, product, integrations and competitors
  • Collaborate with internal teams and directly with customers to validate problems and solutions, leveraging primarily qualitative research methods
  • Design and deliver your first user research project focused on our patients and the impact of the digital divide in healthcare

Within 6 months, you'll...

  • Implement a repeatable process to support User Research across the product development team, supporting various areas from problem validation to solution testing
  • Develop a best-in-class approach to user research, leveraging qualitative and quantitative data analysis to understand the experience of our various user segments
  • Design and deliver your first customer research project focused on understanding priority business needs for FQHCs, Free Clinics and Tribal Health Centers

Responsibilities

  • Design and lead user research initiatives that validate both problems and solutions
  • Plan and conduct user research at all stages of the product development lifecycle
  • Own the entire user research process from recruiting users, to conducting studies, and delivering an analysis
  • Oversee user research strategies and the best approach to answer priority questions: surveys, interviews and other types of user testing methods
  • Collect, analyze and synthesize qualitative data, but also know how and when to leverage quantitative data
  • Collaborate across our product development organization to support timely decision-making
  • Regularly present learnings and recommendations in a digestible manner to internal stakeholders

Requirements

  • At least two roles as a User Experience Researcher, for at least one B2B/enterprise SaaS company
