Carina is a nonprofit technology organization founded in 2016 that operates an online home care matching platform. We connect individuals who need publicly funded home care services, including Medicaid, with home care workers seeking meaningful work and good jobs. We work closely with state and local governments, labor unions, training funds, and private employers. Since our founding, Carina has successfully facilitated thousands of matches, resulting in more than 5 million hours of home care being delivered.

Location: Hybrid work Headquartered in Downtown Seattle, remote work possible from WA state
Work Schedule: Our typical business hours are 8:30-5:00 Monday-Friday

Position Summary
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief People Officer provides strategic leadership for core people practices, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and values. This role oversees shared services aligned to Human Resources and Equity and Learning, driving efficient, scalable and employee-centered delivery. The CPO manages and optimizes people systems and processes, including change management frameworks and learning infrastructure. Operating with a results-driven execution approach, this role leads to the adoption of organizational change and establishes sustainable systems that advance continuous learning, operational readiness, and workforce effectiveness.
You Will:
People Strategy & Practices
- Act as a trusted advisor to the CEO and executive leadership team on people culture and organizational effectiveness;
- Participate in strategic planning and translate organizational goals into actionable people initiatives through effective planning, prioritization and execution;
- Drive organizational effectiveness by leading team initiatives that support connection, learning and team effectiveness and engagement, including quarterly and monthly meetings, weekly huddles, daily stand ups, annual retreat, quarterly goal setting and alignment as well as Gallup engagement initiatives;
- Ensure people practices are equitable, scalable, and aligned with organizational values and business needs.
Shared Services
- Manage cross-functional collaboration and ensure timely completion of deliverables with Human Resources (HR) and Equity & Learning as shared service partners;
- Partner with HR shared services to support and implement all-staff people processes, including annual performance management, compensation cycles, and similar organization-wide initiatives, ensuring Carina-specific context and needs are reflected;
- Bridge Carina staff and HR shared services across individual employee matters while identifying trends and systemic issues requiring organizational action;
- Participate in strategic planning to determine shared service scope alignment in support of organizational goals;
- Review budgets and manage resources effectively with shared service partners.
Organizational Design & Change Management
- Lead organizational design initiatives, including role clarity, team structures and capability building;
- Drive and support company-wide change management efforts, ensuring leaders and employees can successfully navigate change;
- Balance structure and flexibility to preserve an organic culture while enabling growth and clarity.
Culture & Learning
- Champion and sustain a culture of continuous learning, feedback, and development at all levels of the organization;
- Ensure cultural values are embedded in systems, behaviors and decision-making.
Perform other related duties to benefit the mission of the organization.
You Have:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development or a related field;
- 10+ years experience in a people leadership role within a growing or evolving organization;
- 8+ years experience in organizational design and change management;
- Proven experience building, growing, or scaling a significant initiative, function or business unit;
- Demonstrated success working within an organic, values-driven culture, balancing flexibility with operational rigor;
- Substantial experience with strategic thinking, long-term planning and hands-on tactical work;
- Solid business acumen with the ability to align strategy to financial, operational and strategic goals;
- Exceptional leadership, communication and influencing skills across all levels of the organization;
- Experience leading in small or growing organizations, with the ability to build, scale, and adapt people practices as the business evolves.
