JOB PURPOSE

The Student Support Officer is responsible for establishing and operating Chancen South Africa’s member employment and placement capability, moving the function to a proactive talent-supply management.

The role will own the member employability pipeline, coordinate readiness interventions, oversee matching and placement activity, and work across Repayments, Partnerships, Business Development, PEIs, employers and other ecosystem partners to convert member talent into meaningful employment and learnership opportunities.

Ultimately, the role exists to ensure that Chancen graduates are prepared for the world of work, that suitable employment and learnership opportunities are actively sourced and matched to them, and that graduates are supported to secure jobs that enable them to begin repaying their ISAs and sustain the Chancen funding cycle.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Member Intelligence

  • Own the member employability profiling process.

  • Ensure accurate and current employment information.

  • Maintain the member employability pipeline.

  • Analyse member qualifications, skills, geographic location, and barriers.

  • Identify talent clusters that can be taken to employers.

  • Ensure member profiles are sufficiently detailed to support matching.

  1. Member Readiness

  • Establish readiness categories and criteria.

  • Identify priority members requiring high-touch intervention.

  • Coordinate one-to-one employability support.

  • Coordinate group workshops covering CVs, interviews and professional profiles.

  • Ensure member engagements result in documented actions.

  • Monitor member progression through readiness stages.

  1. Opportunity Matching

  • Establish the opportunity intake process.

  • Proactively source suitable employment, learnership and work-placement opportunities for graduates.

  • Assess opportunities against available member talent.

  • Coordinate candidate shortlisting.

  • Confirm candidate interest and availability.

  • Support application and interview processes.

  • Track candidates through the recruitment funnel.

  • Verify placements and salary outcomes.

  1. Employer / Placement Coordination

  • Work closely with Partnerships and Business Development to identify, source and convert employer demand into employment and learnership opportunities for graduates.

  • Provide employer-facing teams with talent intelligence.

  • Support employer requirements and candidate matching.

  • Maintain a placement opportunity pipeline.

  • Monitor employer conversion and candidate outcomes.

  1. PEI Coordination

  • Engage PEIs regarding graduate employment.

  • Track PEI contribution to placements.

  • Identify PEI best practices and performance gaps.

  1. Data & Reporting

  • Own the employment and placement dashboard.

  • Ensure placement data is complete and accurate.

  • Produce monthly placement reports tracking placement rate, time-to-placement, engagement coverage, channel yield, application conversion, interview conversion and offer conversion.

  • Present insights and recommended actions at monthly placement reviews.

  • Prepare quarterly PEI reports on current members in class, assessing their academic participation, performance, and compliance with expectations outlined in the ISA Student Handbook.

  1. Continuous Improvement

  • Identify bottlenecks in the placement journey.

  • Analyse why members become stuck.

  • Analyse channel performance.

  • Recommend where resources should be concentrated.

  • Continuously improve matching, engagement and employer processes.


Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Business Management, Human Resources, Marketing, Social Sciences, Education, Finance, Economics or a related field.

EXPERIENCE

  • 3–5 years’ experience in one or more of graduate employment, recruitment, career development, employer engagement, partnerships, student/member support, employment programmes or talent management.

  • Proven stakeholder management experience, with the ability to build and manage employer relationships that generate employment, learnership, and placement opportunities.

  • Advantageous experience includes working with higher education institutions, employers, SETAs, learnership programmes, youth employment programmes, graduate recruitment, or data-driven employment programmes.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

  • Employment pipeline management; candidate/member profiling; recruitment and selection processes; employer engagement; opportunity-to-candidate matching.

  • Career coaching principles; stakeholder management; data analysis and reporting; dashboard interpretation

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office suite; project management; report writing; presentation skills.

BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES

  • Strong ownership and accountability; commercial and outcome-oriented mindset; empathy and member-centred thinking; strong relationship-building ability.
