CommonLit is a nonprofit EdTech organization dedicated to providing high-quality literacy instruction to low-income students and students of color to prepare them for success in college and careers. We operate a free online reading and writing program, www.commonlit.org , that is used by millions of teachers and students worldwide each month. We are a quickly growing team of passionate professionals - many of whom are former teachers . Our team is now over 100 full-time employees spread across ~30 states.

The Opportunity

CommonLit is looking for a former educator to join our rapidly growing team as a Sales Manager. The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of demonstrated success teaching a literacy-based subject (ex: ELA, Social Studies, Reading Intervention.) CommonLit deeply believes that former educators are uniquely well positioned to explain the benefits of its comprehensive literacy program to fellow educators.

As a Sales Manager, you will be responsible for meeting with teachers and administrators who are interested in learning more about CommonLit’s paid services. You’ll learn more about their district, their role, and the academic problems they’re looking to solve. From there, you’ll advise and consult them on the ways in which CommonLit can best meet their needs.

Our ideal candidate may have some sales experience, but that is not a requirement for this position. CommonLit invests heavily in on-the-job training. Upon joining our team, the Sales Manager will be paired with a seasoned sales leader who’ll train, mentor, and coach them. The Sales Manager will have the opportunity to shadow many sales calls and develop sales skills in internal trainings.

You’ll Love This Role If:

  • You were highly successful as a teacher. You were obsessed with student outcomes and you understood what it took to ensure your students made meaningful progress.
  • You enjoyed leading academic initiatives at your school. You were quick to step up and become an academic leader in your school. Perhaps you helped make purchasing decisions, coached junior teachers, or led important initiatives to improve student outcomes or school culture.
  • You are a competitive and highly driven person. Whether it’s sports, the arts, or student achievement, you’ve always wanted to be the best. You consistently set goals and do whatever you can to exceed them.
  • You enjoy fixing problems and advocating for what’s needed. Whether it’s been in a previous job, during college, or in your community, you’re quick to take action. You feel comfortable convincing others that a problem exists and you enjoy finding common ground with others to fix it.
  • You are eager to build new skills and are receptive to feedback. You love to learn new things and challenge yourself. You believe that with the right training and practice, you could become a great salesperson.

Roles And Responsibilities

  • Prospect new leads via email outreach and additional marketing activities.
  • Attend educational conferences in order to build brand awareness and develop relationships with prospects. Sales managers are expected to attend approximately 2-3 conferences per year.

This is a position in a fast-growing organization that offers many opportunities for professional and compensation growth. We expect this person to start no later than April 1. Interviews for this position will begin on a rolling basis starting in early February.
