Dollar For seeks an experienced fractional CFO or financial consultant for a short-term, part-time engagement to partner with our executive team to upgrade and refine our financial tracking systems.

Most hospitals offer financial assistance programs that discount or forgive bills for patients based on income. Unfortunately, patients don’t always know about these programs or struggle to navigate them. Dollar For makes these charity care programs known, easy, and fair. We help patients check their eligibility for financial assistance, prepare and submit applications, and eliminate medical bills. Our services are completely free – no strings attached.

Dollar For is raising $18 million over the next 3 years to support our goal of eliminating $1 billion in medical debt annually by 2028. Funded through individual philanthropy, scale grants, restricted grants focused on specific geographies, and government contracts, our financial tracking requirements are becoming increasingly complex.

Dollar For currently has a stable, well-organized, and well-executed system for tracking funds and a history of clean audits. However, as our government contracts and budgets grow, we seek a short-term thought partner to develop new policies and practices for scale. Our team is well staffed to execute systems once created, but we need support designing and implementing new systems to responsibly budget, track, and report on different funding streams and projects.

Deliverables

Work closely with the Dollar For COO, Board treasurer, and bookkeeper to:

  • Conduct a complete needs assessment to understand current systems and identify opportunities for improvement;
  • Draft revised comprehensive organizational financial policies and practices that ensure compliance with government contracts and restricted grants;
  • Scope, select, and implement new tools or systems to track restricted funds, ideally integrating with QuickBooks, with support from Dollar For staff as needed;
  • Provide recommendations on bank accounts and financially responsible management of reserve funds;
  • Develop easy-to-use, flexible, dynamic reports to allow for ongoing visibility into budgets, funds raised, and dollars spent; and
  • Train existing DF staff to manage and maintain the new system and processes moving forward.

Requirements

  • You have meaningful nonprofit financial management experience, particularly with scaling organizations. You have led the needs assessment, identification, and migration or setup of new financial tracking systems.
  • You are good at documenting processes and training others on systems that you have created.

Pay, Perks and Benefits

  • This position is budgeted at a flat rate of $5,000/month for 5 months (October 2026-February 2027).
  • Hours can vary as needed to meet all deliverables listed above.

Application Process

  • We will review applications on a rolling basis until we find the right partner.
