Started in 1999, Dream a Dream is a registered, charitable trust empowering young people from vulnerable backgrounds to overcome adversity and flourish in a fast-changing world using a creative Life skills approach. Currently, Dream a Dream runs an Innovation Lab engaging 10,000 young people every year referred from 40 partners, has transformed over 2000 educators from 38 schools impacting over 50,000 young people and engaged over 2500 volunteers.

Dream a Dream is a pioneer in the Life Skills space in India. The Dream Life Skills Assessment Scale developed in-house is today a published, standardised scale that can be used by any NGO/School to assess improvement in life skills. More recently, Dream a Dream has been recognized by Lego Foundation and Ashoka as a Champion (out of 630 global organisations) in the space of Re- Imagining Learning in the world.

Position: Associate Manager

Reporting Manager: Director: Research and Impact

Salary: 700,000 – 800,000/- per annum

Job Responsibility

The primary responsibility of this role is plan, design, conduct, manage and report high-quality research projects. The purpose of which is to build an evidence base for Life Skills that supports Dream a Dream’s 2016-21 strategic intent to ‘Build a movement to equip millions of young people from vulnerable backgrounds with Life Skills to overcome adversity and flourish in the 21st century’.

Reporting to Director – Research and Impact , the function supports the thought leadership strategy designed to select, commission, and interpret research [both academic and informal] to support the hypotheses that developing life skills enables young people from vulnerable backgrounds to overcome adversity and flourish in a fast-changing world. The domain areas for research would include child development, youth development, education, teacher development and Life Skills.

As the Research Manager you’ll need to:

  1. Have qualitative and quantitative research methods skills, training and experience with executing projects.
  2. Articulate hypotheses of the research to be undertaken post an immersive understanding of the research that needs to be done to meet Dream a Dream’s vision of creating an ecosystem mind shift vis-à-vis Life Skills.
  3. Design research studies that meet the rigor of academic standards
  4. Use appropriate and creative methodologies to test hypotheses. This would involve the use of quantitative methods with an understanding of qualitative methods too. Mixed methods expertise desired.
  5. Apply a range of research techniques to gather relevant information, including document analysis, pilots, surveys, case studies and interviews
  6. Gather information directly or liaise with and direct field interviewers to gather information
  7. Develop electronic databases to gather and analyse data
  8. Analyse and evaluate research and interpret data, making sure that key issues are identified
  9. Produce research-based briefings, advice, and action plans
  10. Prepare, present, and disseminate results through programme impact and sectoral impact reports

Skills

  1. Experience in quantitative / qualitative methodologies and research techniques mandatory. Experience in Mixed methodology studies would be an added qualification.
  2. Expertise in using statistical software/ qualitative analysis software such as SPSS, R, Survey Monkey, NVivo, MAXQDA, ATLAS.ti etc.
  3. A flexible approach to be able to work on several different research projects at the same time
  4. Organisation skills, including time management and the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines

General Responsibilities

  1. Develop linkages with national and international research agencies/ experts/ universities
  2. Contribute to achievement of strategic goals set by the organisation
  3. Respond in a timely manner to information requests from program teams, finance teams, donors, or member fundraising teams.
  4. Maintain clear communication channels with stakeholders both internally and externally
  5. Delivery of accurate and timely reporting
  6. Being a small team, you would also be required to multi-task between roles, as and when required by the organisation for the furtherance of its goals

EDUCATION

Postgraduate Degree /MPhil/ Doctorate in social science/ psychology / education/ statistics or related discipline

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Experience: Minimum of 3 years in social science research or developmental sector
