JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a creative and detail-oriented Designer / Illustrator to join our Narrative Building Team within the communications department. This role involves translating complex narratives into visually compelling designs that enhance storytelling and engage our audience across multiple platforms. The ideal candidate should be adept at both illustration and graphic design, with an ability to collaborate closely with communication strategists, writers and other designers The consultant will work closely with the Narrative Building team, and the role will be on a full-time consultancy basis

Roles and Responsibilities: –

  • Design Creation: Develop visual concepts, illustrations and layouts for narrative-driven projects, including social media posts, websites, presentations, reports and other communication materials.
  • Storytelling: Work alongside the narrative team to visualize and enhance stories through graphics, infographics, character design and more.
  • Collaboration: Partner with writers, editors and strategists to ensure design work aligns with narrative goals and messaging.
  • Brand Consistency: Maintain and uphold the visual identity and brand standards across all designs and projects.
  • Content Strategy: Support the creation of visual assets that support overarching content strategies and goals.
  • Feedback & Iteration: Be open to feedback, adjusting designs according to the needs of the team and the project.
  • Project Management: Prioritize and manage multiple design projects while meeting deadlines and ensuring the highest quality standards.

REQUIREMENTS (SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE)

  • 2-3 years of relevant experience in design or illustration roles, with exposure to narrative design and storytelling.
  • Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, etc.).
  • Excellent understanding of visual storytelling, design principles, and layout techniques.
  • Ability to create both digital and print materials.
  • Strong conceptual and creative skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Experience working within brand guidelines and adapting designs for different channels.
  • Knowledge of typography, color theory, and visual hierarchy.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

Portfolio: A portfolio that demonstrates previous illustration and design work, with emphasis on storytelling, branding and content creation.
