EarthEnable is transforming how people live by making homes healthier for families across rural Rwanda and helping to reduce the polluting impact of the building industry on the environment. 80% of Rwandans live in homes with dirt floors that are dusty, unsanitary, and fertile breeding grounds for parasites and germs. While replacing a dirt floor with concrete has significant health benefits (e.g., reducing diarrhea by 50% and parasitic infections by 80%), concrete is unaffordable for many who need it and is a huge contributor to global pollution. To counter the environmental and affordability issues surrounding concrete, EarthEnable has spent the past 8+ years developing and selling high-quality, earthen floors and plasters that are 80% cheaper than concrete with 90% less embodied energy. Our next step is a collaborative research project to identify more potential innovations in low-carbon buildings.
About the role
The Repair/Trainer Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the quality and progress of construction projects carried out by builders. This hands-on role involves working closely with builders to ensure adherence to quality standards, fostering communication, supporting client satisfaction, and collaborating with the district leader to address challenges. The ideal candidate will be proactive, collaborative, and committed to maintaining high-quality standards while motivating builders and CSOs to achieve district goals.
Key responsabilities:
1. Technical Supervision & Quality Control
- Conduct regular on-site quality checks to ensure all construction projects, including flooring, plaster, and other products, adhere to EarthEnable’s quality standards.
- Provide technical guidance and direct feedback to masons, addressing any skill gaps and ensuring issues are resolved efficiently to maintain high construction quality.
- Utilize Quality Assurance and Verification (QAV) data and customer feedback to monitor and drive continuous improvement in project quality.
2. Builder Accountability & Task Oversight
- Oversee the daily activities of masons, ensuring accountability for assigned tasks and maintaining a motivated team aligned with EarthEnable’s quality objectives.
- Supervise and verify that all work follows specified guidelines and safety protocols, supporting each mason in adhering to EarthEnable’s quality standards and timelines.
- Act as a central point of communication to relay instructions from district leaders and address client concerns directly with masons to ensure alignment on project objectives.
3. Technical Training & Development
- Provide hands-on training and coaching to masons, especially on technical aspects of quality control, construction techniques, and the use of materials to meet EarthEnable’s standards.
- Promote skill-building by encouraging experienced builders to train helpers, fostering a pathway for future builders and contributing to the team’s overall capacity.
- Collaborate with the territory Lead to identify and support areas of improvement for builders, contributing to district-wide quality and performance targets.
4. Initiative & Problem-Solving
- Demonstrate proactive problem-solving by addressing technical challenges in the field and proposing solutions to enhance project quality and efficiency.
- Show commitment to personal skill development to maintain a high standard of technical supervision and effectively support builders and masons in quality execution.
Qualifications:
- Must-Have
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in construction practices, particularly in flooring, plaster, or related areas.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in construction techniques and quality assurance practices, with a focus on delivering durable, high-quality projects.
- Valid driving license (Category A)
- Familiarity with Earthenable products
- Willingness to relocate to the assigned district
- Communication Skills: Clear and effective communication with builders, clients, and community leaders to ensure alignment on expectations and standards.
2. Good-to-Have
- Coaching Skills: Ability to motivate and coach a team of builders, focusing on developing their technical skills and promoting accountability.
- Problem-Solving Ability: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to quickly address field challenges and maintain project timelines and quality.
- Community Relations: Experience in community engagement or working with local leaders to support project awareness and build trust.
