FINANCING ALLIANCE FOR HEALTH OVERVIEW
The Financing Alliance for Health (FAH) is an Africa-based, African-led, and Africa-focused entity that convenes governments, funders, philanthropy, private-sector, and communities to address systemic financing challenges to scaling primary and community health systems for delivery of integrated primary healthcare services through country, regional and global partnerships.
As trusted strategic and technical advisors, FAH acts as a bridge between the world of health and finance through long-term partnering with the Ministries of Health and Ministries of Finance teams to develop different and changing financing sources. This approach will empower/ enable them to be the lead stewards in their local health systems to reach the scale and sustainability that is needed and ultimately achieve universal health coverage.
Headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, FAH has successfully supported 18 governments at the national and sub-national levels, across 13 countries (Rwanda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Haiti, Burkina Faso, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Liberia, South Africa, Malawi, Senegal, Kenya, and Togo). FAH works with governments in their journey of designing, scaling, and financing of primary and community health programs, with a view to strengthening national and regional health systems
through embedding teams, evidence generation, designing financing solutions, and advocacy.
Our longer goal is to scale up and strengthen Primary and Community Health Systems to increase access and utilization of reproductive, maternal newborn, child & adolescent child services at primary facilities and community levels. We act as a bridge between the worlds of health and
finance.
Our work areas include:
- Country government support: Long-term onsite technical and financing support on primary and community health.
- Analytical toolkits: Develop and offer toolkits to support country costings, investment cases, and financing pathways.
- Financing products/ modalities: Working with donors & financing industry to design, develop, and deploy new/modified financial products.
- Awareness and education: Develop investment cases, build thought leadership, and share capacity-building material.
POSITION SUMMARY
Role Overview: The Senior Fellow – Creative Design, Communications & Advocacy will serve as a strategic and creative force within the Financing Alliance for Health (FAH), driving the organization’s visibility, influence, and impact across global health financing platforms. This fellowship is tailored for a dynamic professional with a strong blend of design expertise, multimedia production skills, and advocacy-driven communications experience. Working closely with the communications and brands lead, the Fellow will support the development of high quality compelling visual and digital content including reports, digital assets, and advocacy campaigns, transforming complex health financing concepts into accessible narratives that resonate with governments, donors, partners, and the public.
S/he will safeguard and evolve FAH’s brand identity, ensure consistent and strategic messaging, and drive innovative approaches to storytelling, including photography, videography, motion graphics, and interactive content.
In addition, the Fellow will directly support FAH’s advocacy agenda by shaping content for global platforms, managing media engagement, and coordinating high-profile events, webinars and campaigns. The Fellow will play a key role in amplifying and communicating FAH’s achievements in its mission to mobilize sustainable health financing solutions to advance universal health coverage for all Africans.
Reporting to the Communications and Brand Specialist, this role is ideal for a passionate communicator and designer who thrives at the intersection of creativity, policy, and advocacy, and who can translate data into stories, strategies into movements, and ideas into action.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Creative Design & Branding
- Design high quality and visually appealing reports, briefs, infographics, advocacy toolkits, event branding, and digital assets.
- Maintain, strengthen, and evolve FAH’s visual identity across platforms in line with brand guidelines.
- Ensure all outputs (publications, visuals, campaigns) are aligned with FAH’s strategic direction.
2. Content Creation, Creative Storytelling & Production
- Capture and edit high-quality photography and videography.
- Short videos, animations, and motion graphics for social media and advocacy.
- Support content gathering across FAH countries.
3. Communications & Advocacy Support:
- Translate complex technical and policy content into compelling, accessible visuals and narratives.
- Support the rollout of FAH’s communications strategy, including campaigns, crisis management, and social media visibility.
- Creatively strengthen the implementation of FAH’s social media strategy with visuals, animated explainers, and infographics.
- Contribute to advocacy campaigns and knowledge product design.
- Support design of compelling communication products and dissemination of programmatic work to uphold positive public and stakeholder impressions. (Policy Briefs, Investment Case Studies, Publications, Funders Updates, Reports)
- Support the coordination of advocacy events (launches, campaigns, side events, conferences) – including concept notes, agendas, logistics, and speaker
engagement. - Promote FAH’s work through global advocacy platforms such as CHU4UHC, CHW Central, NMA, CHIC, and Communities at the Heart of UHC.
- Conduct interviews with stakeholders (CHWs, government officials, donors, partners) and develop human-interest storytelling products.
- Experiment with new creative formats (engaging short form videos, animations, motion graphics explainer videos, interactive graphics, UI/UX) for social media, and advocacy campaigns.
- Infuse African-inspired design elements into FAH storytelling. Capture and edit professional photography and videography across FAHsupported countries.
- Manage storage and organization of raw and edited content for future use.
4. Brand Management:
- Safeguard FAH’s brand integrity and ensure consistent messaging across all channels
- Develop brand-compliant templates for reports, briefs, presentations, and social media.
Deliverables:
- Quarterly set of advocacy and campaign materials (videos, infographics, briefs).
- High-quality visual documentation of FAH projects in-country.
- Critical institutional profiling documents (communication packages) and processes – (impact report, digital campaign, multimedia content, policy briefs, reports).
- Branded templates & toolkits for internal and external use.
- Media and advocacy engagement reports with metrics and recommendations.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Graphic Design, Multimedia, Visual Communication, or related field.
- 2+ years’ professional experience in design and content production.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, InDesign, Premiere Pro.
- Skills in animation, motion graphics, and sound design.
- Experience with photography & videography (shooting + editing).
- Knowledge of web design / UI/UX is an advantage.
- Strong ability to storyboard, conceptualize, and translate ideas into visuals.
- Portfolio demonstrating high-quality design and storytelling work.
Must Haves: - A creative strategist with a strong portfolio in design, multimedia production, and advocacy communications
- Deep understanding of global health, policy, or development sectors
- Exceptional storytelling skills—able to turn data into narratives and strategies into movements
- Proficient in design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite), video editing, and digital publishing platforms
- Collaborative, agile, and passionate about driving change through creative expression
Compensation:
This position offers a stipend to cover the fellow’s expenses during the engagement.
