About the Role

The Technical Services unit is nested under the Digital Services (Enterprise Technology) function. This new role in our Enterprise Technology Services. team is a Manager position and will be responsible for overseeing technology services across F4E’s various Nairobi offices, warehouses, and field operations (schools and kitchens) across Kenya and Africa.

The successful candidate will manage hardware and asset lifecycles, strategic vendor relationships, and IT support projects while ensuring world-class security and compliance standards are upheld. The role has a lot of creative responsibility relating to bringing in new ideas, technologies and solutions into the organisation. The ownership of the strategy of the Technical Services team is shared with the Head of Digital.

They will also drive operational efficiency through automation, lead field technology deployment and maintenance, and spearhead innovation, testing, and digital transformation initiatives. The role requires strong project leadership and cross-functional collaboration to deliver scalable, reliable, and future-ready technology solutions. As a manager, the candidate will be responsible for the mentorship and growth of existing team members, as well as the scaling and growth of the team relating to the organisation’s needs.


Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Infrastructure & IT Operations Management: Oversee the reliability, security, and performance of the organization’s core technology environment, with a primary focus on physical infrastructure, on-premise servers, enterprise networks (including Wi-Fi), and corporate connectivity.

    • Lead the IT function by guiding the selection, implementation, and scaling of systems and tools that support business operations.

    • Manage hardware and asset lifecycles, vendor engagements, and deployment of infrastructure and office technology.

    • Maintain responsibility for server environments, network architecture, and core IT infrastructure administration, while collaborating closely with the Tech Support team on field devices and shared operational assets they directly manage.

    • Responsibility for the organisation’s internal servers, networks, and hardware.


  • User Support & Service Delivery: reactive, focused on resolving issues and fulfilling requests from employees so they can do their jobs effectively.

    • Support and co-ownership with the People Team on all hardware assets and software subscriptions required by existing and new F4E staff

    • Own day-to-day IT operations and serve as the primary point of contact for IT support and initiatives.

    • Provide leadership, mentorship, and direction to technical team members, fostering capability development and high performance.

    • Collaborate with and provide direction to the existing team members.


  • Security & Compliance: protecting the organization's data, systems, and users from threats, as well as ensuring adherence to legal and industry regulations.

    • Oversee security, compliance, and IT policy standards across all systems and services.

    • Safeguard M&E data flow integrity to support accurate reporting and decision-making.


  • Projects & Development: discrete, time-bound initiatives designed to create new value, implement new systems, or significantly improve existing ones. Unlike ongoing operations, projects have a defined start, end, and specific goals.

    • Plan and deliver IT projects, upgrades, and implementations, ensuring quality, timely execution, and clear stakeholder communication.

    • Drive operational efficiency by identifying gaps and introducing automation, process improvements, and innovative technology solutions.

    • Partner with cross-functional teams to test, roll out, and optimize new technology solutions.


  • Strategy, Governance, & Administration: management and planning functions of the Technical Services department itself. It ensures that IT efforts are aligned with business goals and are executed efficiently.

    • Design, document, and continuously improve IT processes and policies, owning the IT Policy framework across the organisation.

    • Own the business continuity for the whole of the Tech department.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years’ cumulative experience, including at least 3 years in a managerial capacity.

  • Demonstrated track record in designing, implementing, and operationalizing enterprise technical services from inception to maturity.

  • Proven experience managing complex technology projects across shared services and field operations.

  • Managing multiple projects across many areas concurrently

  • Strong knowledge of systems management and IT security best practices.

  • Established leadership experience in managing teams and driving project success.

  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Ability to align IT strategies with broader business objectives to deliver measurable value.

  • Experience overseeing deliverable quality and managing day-to-day team performance to ensure exceptional service outcomes.
