ABOUT GENERATION:
At Generation, we believe in the power of employment to change lives. We are a global nonprofit organization that supports adults to achieve economic mobility through employment. Generation trains and places adult learners of all ages into careers that are otherwise inaccessible, working in partnership with governments, employers, and other system actors. We also conduct original research and share data insights on high-priority global workforce transition topics to inform decision-making by workforce system stakeholders. Launched in 2015, Generation comprises a global hub (Generation You Employed, or GYE) and a network of in-country affiliates. To date, the network has 150,000+ graduates and 23,000+ employers across 50 professions and 17 countries.
When learners join Generation, 91% are unemployed, of which nearly half are long-term unemployed. Three months after completing our program, graduates have a 78% job placement rate, rising to 88% within six months. Of our employed graduates, 79% are hired by repeat employers who have previously hired Generation graduates, and 89% are in jobs directly related to the profession for which we have trained them. Employed graduates immediately earn an average of 3-4X their previous earnings. Two to five years after graduation, 77% of our alumni from upper-middle income countries continue to meet their daily financial needs and 63% can save for the future. To date, Generation’s global graduates have earned more than $1.9 billion in wages. Generation graduates typically have a secondary school background, 52% are female, 28% have dependents, and the majority identify with underrepresented communities in their country.
JOB OBJECTIVES:
Generation is an anchor member of The Durability Collective, a group of nonprofits and funders working toward a world where every nonprofit is empowered to demonstrate how lives and communities are transformed by its interventions over time.We are looking for a part-time (5-20 hours/week) consultant to help us build, iterate, and test an asynchronous course in the LearnWorlds platform, as well as assist with maintenance/updates within the Mighty Networks platform.
By the end of this engagement, the e-learning consultant will have delivered a LearnWorlds-based course that is fully live, professionally presented, and thoroughly tested — ready for learner intake without further technical intervention. Throughout, the consultant will be a reliable and communicative partner to the Generation team, flagging issues early, iterating quickly on feedback, and keeping the build process on track.
This role is remote, with preference given to candidates based in any of our current Generation global affiliate countries. Working hours must overlap with US East Coast time by 4 hours.
This project will run for a minimum of 4 months, for 5-20 hours per week with the potential for extensions based on project needs.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Course build and testing
- Working from a provided outline, build and deliver the course in LearnWorlds, configuring the platform's structure, navigation, and learner progression logic in line with the team's pedagogical intent.
- Apply instructional design expertise to maximize accessibility for global learners and advise on opportunities for content improvement.
- Establish the course's visual look and feel in collaboration with the Generation team, applying branding elements and iterating on design based on feedback until sign-off
- Set up an efficient reporting and analytics approach aligned with project priorities
- Configure and test learner enrollment pathways, including any self-enrollment flows, access permissions, and welcome or onboarding experiences, ensuring a smooth entry point for external NGO staff learners
Interactive video production
- Working from storyboards and scripts provided by Generation, oversee and manage the creation of 15 interactive videos, coordinating with a team likely to include voiceover artists, slide creators, and reviewers
- Ensure each video is produced to the agreed technical and pedagogical specification — including interactive elements, subtitles, and accessibility requirements — and integrates cleanly into the course player
Quality assurance
- Drive the QA process end to end: systematically test all course elements across relevant devices and browsers, with particular attention to the mobile experience given the learner audience
- Document and resolve issues, liaising with the Generation team on anything requiring a content or design decision
- Confirm the course meets agreed completion and certification criteria before sign-off
Post-launch iteration
- Collaborate closely with the Generation team in troubleshooting any issues that arise during launch, documenting learnings, and iterating high-priority trouble spots
Project management and communication
- Maintain clear, prompt communication with the Generation team throughout the engagement, proactively surfacing blockers or risks rather than waiting for check-ins
- Track progress against agreed milestones, flagging slippage early and proposing solutions
- Support ad hoc tasks as needed during the build phase
ATTRIBUTES/QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience
- Significant experience in adult learning, instructional design and online learning design, with a strong grasp of what works for self-directed, asynchronous learners — particularly those from lower-bandwidth, mobile-first contexts in sub-Saharan Africa and/or Latin America
- Hands-on experience as an LMS administrator, with confidence configuring course structure, enrollment, completion tracking, and learner-facing settings; direct experience with LearnWorlds is a significant advantage
- Nice-to-haves:
- Experience with the Mighty Networks community platform
- Practical video editing skills, with experience producing or managing the production of polished e-learning video assets
- Fluency in English; fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese is a plus
Mindsets
- Detail-oriented and quality-driven — understands that a course going live is a public-facing product and holds themselves to that standard
- Proactive and solutions-oriented: when something doesn't work as expected, proposes a fix rather than waiting for direction
- Clear, professional communicator who keeps collaborators informed without over-communicating, and asks the right questions at the right moments
- Collaborative and open to feedback, with the maturity to iterate quickly and without ego when the team requests changes
- Self-managing and reliable in a remote, asynchronous working environment
