The Opportunity

The Department of English at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) is looking for a full-time on-campus Assistant Professor of Creative Writing. You will contribute to the English Department's program in Creative Writing, teaching some combination of the following courses: Introduction to Creative Writing, (Beginning) Fiction workshop, Intermediate Fiction Workshop, Advanced Creative Writing, or Screenwriting. Preference will be given to candidates who can bring diverse perspectives to the program and who have experience teaching literature, especially African American Literature, Global or Postcolonial Literature, Introduction to Literature, or Environmental Literature. The typical teaching load is a 3/3, with expectation of a publication agenda. You will report to the Dean of the School of Arts, Sciences, and Education.

This opportunity includes the possibility of summer teaching and overloads for additional compensation. You will be located onsite in Manchester, NH at our traditional, residential campus. We are located an hour from Boston, less than an hour from the seacoast, and also near the Lakes Region and the White Mountains. The campus serves about 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The English department does not offer any graduate degrees, so this position would serve undergraduate students exclusively.

In this Role You'll Get To:

• Prepare, and teach courses following departmental needs and class schedules
• Participate in the departmental and school-wide efforts for curriculum development, program reviews and accreditation under the supervision of the dean/department chair
• Advise and mentor students

What we're Looking For:

• MFA or PhD in Creative Writing, fiction. We welcome candidates working at the intersection of Creative Writing and literary studies.
• 3+ years of prior experience teaching Creative Writing at the undergraduate level and both the capacity and willingness to instruct a diverse population of students. Experience with expository writing is welcomed as well.
• History of successful publication and promising scholarly agenda
