The Opportunity

The ITS Architect performs technical analysis and specialized work in the design, development, maintenance, systems integrations, and improvement of the organization's technical infrastructure. This role provides a variety of application design, development, integration, and maintenance services, and is instrumental in improving the functionality and effectiveness of the university’s technical properties. In addition, s/he evaluates and recommends architectural solutions to achieve business objectives, and provides support and guidance to fellow development team members.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review and integrate application, system, and technical requirements including functional, security, integration, performance, quality and operations requirements. Translate business and technical requirements into an architectural blueprint to achieve business objectives.
  • Lead evaluation, design, and analysis activities and deliverables for implementation based on enterprise standards and business priorities.
  • Work closely with analysts, developers, product owners, etc. to ensure the system accurately meets the defined expectations of the business unit, ensuring proper functional and performance testing/monitoring.
  • Facilitate the evaluation and selection of software products, standards, and services, as well as the design of standard and custom software configurations.
  • Design, develop, and maintain technical implementation guides and standards for university technology, such as applications (both on-premises and cloud-based), infrastructure (on-premises and cloud-based servers, and networks), as well as application/data integrations.
  • Participate in processes for university technology and provide subject matter expertise throughout the project management and technology lifecycle.
  • Ensure the proper selection, configuration, deployment, and operation of university technologies.
  • Write dynamic web interfaces, supporting services, and integrations with databases, application program interfaces (API), and university technologies.
  • Review new and existing system infrastructure, integrations and designs to identify and effectively communicate improvement opportunities through data analytics, stakeholder and customer interactions.
  • Document all aspects of systems implementations from concept to implementation and establish and maintain best practices documentation related to systems integrations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Years of relevant or specific experience: Ten years’ experience in a technical field.
  • Academic Degree(s) and/ areas of study: Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, information security, or related field.

Equivalent of experience in lieu of degree acceptable: Yes No

  • Professional Certification(s): N/A
  • Experience in designing and developing software components.
  • Ability to define the system landscape, to identify gaps between current and desired end-states and deliver a solution.
  • Thorough understanding of software/system development lifecycle and integration.
  • Ability to fully implement designs using standards-based technologies including XHTML, JavaScript, and CSS.
  • Strong working knowledge of system/process/data modeling tools and techniques.
  • Familiar with multiple project management and development methodologies (predictive, agile).
  • Experience in writing dynamic web interfaces and integrating with databases.
  • Proven experience supporting business teams on enterprise applications, including Cloud and hosted solutions
  • Prior experience working projects of moderate to high complexity involving multiple functional teams and systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, enabling clear communication of complex concepts to target audience in business and technology domains.
  • Demonstrable leadership (e.g. initiative, judgment) in carrying out all core responsibilities.
  • Experience in writing dynamic web interfaces and integrating with databases.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience implementing systems in a higher education setting
  • Software engineering, systems engineering, or business systems analysis experience a plus
