The Opportunity

The Department of English at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) is looking for a full-time on-campus Assistant Professor of English Composition. This is a position at the traditional, residential campus in Manchester, NH. You will contribute to our first year and general education program, and you will teach most of your load in related gateway courses, including basic writing, first-year composition, and a research-focused sophomore seminar. You will report to the Dean of the School of Arts, Sciences, and Education.

We are looking for someone with experience teaching composition at the first year and sophomore levels with a passionate focus on the teaching of writing. Additionally, you have a demonstrated research agenda in composition theory or pedagogy. We are also interested in candidates with cross-cultural literacy who could help diversify the offerings in our Writing Program and who share SNHU's commitment to inclusivity. Located in Manchester, New Hampshire, SNHU is in the heart of New England. Within an hour of Manchester, you will find the beaches of the New England seacoast, the boating of the New Hampshire Lakes Region, the hiking and skiing of the White Mountains, and the culture of Boston, Massachusetts.

In this Role You'll Get To:

  • Teach courses as scheduled.
  • Access student work and provide timely feedback.
  • Use Brightspace (the Learning Management System) to support the course.

What we're Looking For:

  • PhD in Composition and Rhetoric or a related field. We particularly welcome candidates working at the intersection of Composition & Rhetoric and Creative Writing and/or technical, digital, or professional writing.
  • 3+ years of prior teaching experience at the undergraduate level and both the capacity and willingness to instruct composition courses to a diverse population of students.
