The Opportunity

The Communications and Media Arts Department at Southern New Hampshire University is looking for candidates for an Instructor of Game Programming opening. This is a full-time face-to-face position on our traditional Manchester, New Hampshire campus. You will bring your own game development experiences into the classroom to engage students and lead them toward roles in the games industry. Experience expressing your skills in ways that our undergraduates will remember is a criterion for achievement in the instructor role. This position is located onsite and reports to the Dean of the School of Arts, Sciences, and Education.

You'll Get To:

  • Prep for and deliver content for assigned courses. These may include introductory, intermediate, and advanced game programming and game development using Unity3D or Unreal game engines. The teaching load is four 3-credit courses. Class sessions are scheduled as either 75 minutes in duration and meeting twice a week or as sessions lasting 150 minutes that meet once a week.
  • Access and assess student work and provide feedback.
  • Coach in a studio environment where our students may work in teams on real-world projects.
  • Use Brightspace (the Learning Management System) to support the course and host course materials.
  • Hold five office hours throughout the week. Hours for class prep and student assessment are expected to make up the balance of the full-time load.
  • Attendance, punctuality, and presence are essential functions of this role.
  • Other responsibilities or activities may be assigned at any time with or without notice.

What we're Looking For:

  • A Bachelor's degree in game programming, computer science, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated industry experience.
  • 1+ years of experience with C++ in or out of an engine. Experience with 3D/game art, Unity3D or Unreal Engine.
  • Practical knowledge of game development pipelines.
  • Experience with game studies, game theory, and game history
  • Understanding of the relationship between the roles and functions of game development
