The Opportunity

The Cloud Security Engineer reports to the Director of Information Security Engineering and ensures that university computing networks, assets, and applications are secure and functional. You will be responsible for security consulting, promoting security best practices with university business and technical partners as part of a project team or ad-hoc role. Additionally the Information Security Engineer manages enterprise cybersecurity tool and technologies, such as, SEIM tool(s), ServiceNow, Tenable, Proofpoint, next-gen. You will be 100% remote. #LI-Remote

You will:

  • You will provide cybersecurity subject-matter expertise to cross-functional teams for multiple efforts throughout the project management and technology operations lifecycle.
  • You will conduct research and gap analysis of security controls and practices.
  • You will evaluate the configuration, deployment, and operation of university technologies
  • You will design risk-informed solutions in response to business need.
  • You will participate in cybersecurity incident response activities.
  • You will administer cybersecurity tools such as SEIM tool(s), Tenable, Proofpoint, next-gen Firewall/IDS.
  • You will assist with reporting.
  • You will Implement and administer information security management, and protection technologies.
  • You will design, develop, and maintain technical implementation guides and standards for endpoint, server, and network computing assets and applications.
  • You will participating in system, network, and application design processes and providing subject-matter expertise throughout the project management lifecycle.
  • You will ensure the proper selection, configuration, deployment, and operation of encryption technologies.
  • You will collaborate with security analysts and representatives to enhance security-related workflows.
  • You will partake in computer security incident response activities.
  • You will help with risk management, security assessment, auditing, and security authorization programs, as directed by the university's Information Security Officer.

What we are looking for:

  • Years of relevant or specific experience: Five years of information technology experience, including two years of cybersecurity experience.
  • Academic Degree(s) and/ areas of study: Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, information security or related discipline.
  • Equivalent of experience in lieu of degree acceptable: ☒ No
  • Professional Certification(s): One or more, relevant cybersecurity certifications, such as CISM, CISA, CISSP, CEH, GIAC.
  • Experience implementing/administering network, host, and application security technologies, deep technical knowledge of commonly used business and network operating systems, and proficiency with popular programming/scripting languages.

Additional experience with:

  • Additional IT certifications such as Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA and ITIL.
  • Experience with PowerShell, JSON based API, other scripting languages.
  • Azure PaaS/IaaS, Microsoft 365, Splunk, Deepwatch user or administration experience.
  • Experience participating in cybersecurity incident response activities.
  • Familiarity of relevant compliance and frameworks, FERPA, PCI-DSS, NIST CSF, OWASP, CIS top 20, MITRE ATT&ACK framework.
