The Opportunity
The Director of Generative AI is a remote position (#LI-Remote) and will help develop foundational LLMs aimed at improving the experience and performance of learners in their journey at SNHU while pushing the boundaries of innovation. The Director of Generative AI will oversee a team of experts in AI and machine learning, to advance our products and services. You will need to possess a combination of technical, project management, and management skills. It is essential to have experience developing AI/ML solutions, and an interest in the latest technologies. You will report to our Vice President of Machine Learning and Data science and need to collaborate with partners of all backgrounds.
In this Role You'll Get To:
- Lead a team of AI and machine learning experts to deploy AI/ML solutions.
- Build the generative AI strategy for the entire organization.
- Includes: use case development, drawing up the deployment architecture with the ITS Engineering team, setting up the best practices for scaling and democratizing these tools, and communicating results/requests with associated partners.
- Develop and gain support on new ML/AI applications and products.
- Collaborate with partners regarding product design, data specification, and model implementations. Lay out the requirements and potential challenges associated with product deployment to the ITS DevOps and Engineering team. Update leadership and partners on project/test results, gains, opportunities, and address any questions.
- Design reproducible ML/AI model development and deployment practices (including coding styles, repo structures, performance monitoring, peer review practices, CI/CD steps) that can be absorbed and followed by other team members.
- Mentor team members on development best practices/techniques.
- Manage project timelines/milestones to ensure project deliverables are met.
- Stay up to date on the latest industry trends and developments in AI/ML technology.
- Help us create compelling presentations and documents to communicate complex ideas to partners and leadership.
- Enable collaboration efforts between our team and partners to lead us to common goal achievement and meet organizational objectives.

What we're Looking For:
- 8+ years of experience in a quantitative, data-driven business environment working with data science tools, and complex data sets with increasing responsibility; at least 2 years managing people/processes.
- Master's degree with a concentration in a quantitative discipline (statistics, computer science, mathematics, economics)
- You will need experience developing nuanced ideas into tangible products. Demonstrated expertise in deploying machine learning models and applications into production environments.
- Expertise in both parametric statistical modeling techniques (linear regression, GLM, survival analysis, time series) and non-parametric techniques (GBM, NN, NLP)
- Substantial prior programming experience in languages such as R, Python, SPARK, and SQL
- Comfort with professional software development process and GitHub
- Experience designing rich data visualizations to communicate complex ideas to partners and leadership.
- Detailed recent NLP experience (basic techniques, large language models, transformers).
- Experience working with projects from inception to completion
Nice to have:
- At least 1 year of experience with generative AI solutions (both development and deployment/integration) including training, fine-tuning, and prompt engineering.
