The opportunity

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a student employee to fill the role of a Learn to Be Tutor. Learn To Be is a non-profit bringing free, 1-on-1, online tutoring to underserved youth around the United States. We want to live in a world where all kids have access to a great education — not just those whose families can afford one. Learn To Be tutors are dedicated individuals who believe deeply in educational equity. Our tutors work 1-on-1 with our diverse cohort of students including foster youth, homeless youth. To date, we have hosted over 200,000 hours of tutoring for over 10,000 students. Learn To Be Volunteer Tutors work with students 1-on-1 via a virtual platform. All tutoring sessions take place remotely. To apply for this position, students must have work study as part of their financial aid package.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Tutors will select a student/students that match their grade and subject preference, in addition to availability
  • Once connected, tutors communicate directly with your student/family to determine the best schedule for lessons.
  • Commit to tutoring at least 1-2x per week (or more!) for at least a semester.
  • Support your student/s through homework help, test prep, and engaging lesson plans.
  • Act as a mentor, not just a tutor.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in a SNHU degree program
  • Work study as part of financial aid package
  • Consent to a public record background check
  • Understanding of technology or the ability to learn quickly
  • Responsible and reliable
  • Organized and a good communicator
  • Flexible & empathetic to students from differing circumstances
  • Passionate about working with K- 12 students
