The opportunity
Southern New Hampshire University is currently seeking Manchester campus-based student workers in the Wolak Learning Center as Peer Educators for on-campus academic support. Campus-based Peer Educators will provide in-person academic assistance (with occasional virtual sessions) to students on an individual or small-group basis in specific content areas. Support areas include math, science, technology, engineering, game design/game arts, writing, liberal arts, business, and study skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist students academically to help them improve their knowledge in specific content areas and/or enhance their study skills through multiple modalities of tutoring
Motivate students and help them develop confidence through positive feedback on areas of improvement
Fulfill student support roles as assigned, which may include drop-in tutoring, one-to-one tutoring, class-embedded or class-linked tutoring.
Assist with front office and Wolak Learning Center initiatives
Attend mandatory All-Peer Educator training sessions
Participate in discipline specific trainings
Arrive on-time and prepared for all scheduled sessions
Check office communications daily for assignments, announcements, and correspondence
Submit payroll hours and tracking forms promptly after each session
Cumulative SNHU GPA of 3.0 or higher
Successful completion of discipline specific courses - additional requirements may vary by discipline
Three references from SNHU instructors or advisors
Strong knowledge of subject matter
Excellent level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality
Preferred Qualifications:
If applying for the Science, Technology, Engineering, and/or Math subject areas, applicants should possess course grades of A-/A in relevant course(s).
If applying for the Business subject area, a strong understanding of accounting, finance, and/or economics courses is preferred. Marketing, hospitality, and QSO subject knowledge is also encouraged.
If applying for Liberal Arts and/or Writing subject areas, please include a strong cover letter that highlights your strengths with grammar and sentence structure.
All applicants must provide a recommendation from at least one faculty member relevant to the subject area they are applying to.
Peer Educators will be expected to utilize their own computer where appropriate for virtual tutoring sessions.

Student workers will develop skills to assist tutees in specific content areas using multiple in-person modalities and develop specific differentiated tutoring strategies to meet various needs of learners based on learner preferences, strengths/weaknesses, background, or prior knowledge.
Student workers will learn effective tutoring strategies and skills.
Student workers will be able to explain, demonstrate, and incorporate study habits, motivation, and academic success strategies consistent with those emphasized during tutor training.
Student workers will incorporate effective communication skills into tutoring sessions and improve their own professional development skills for post-SNHU employment opportunities.
Hours vary. Office Hours: Mondays-Thursdays: 9:00am-7:00pm, Fridays: 9:00am-4:30pm, Saturdays-Sundays: closed. Typically, peer educators work 5-10 hours per week.

Compensation
The hourly pay range for this position is $12.00 - $15.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations.
