The opportunity

Commuter Assistant student staff provide high-quality customer service to the Southern New Hampshire University community. General duties include seeking out, assessing and addressing the needs and desires of the commuter student population and planning commuter specific programming. Employees must be willing, on occasion, to work flexible hours, late nights and weekends. This position also supports the Office of Student Involvement in general, and employees may participate in special projects as assigned. Our student employees are essential in helping us build community and support others finding a sense of belonging at SNHU, especially as our commuter population may not as easily make the connection. We look to hire students who demonstrate integrity.

Manager Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the supervision, hiring evaluating, and training of all Commuter Lounge Staff
  • Help in planning Fall Training for the Commuter Lounge Staff and help coordinate additional training opportunities throughout the Academic Year.
  • Generate bi-weekly work schedule for Commuter Lounge Staff
  • Serve as an open line of communication between Commuter Lounge Staff and the Office of Student Involvement.
  • Review and maintain written manuals for all procedures and policies.
  • Schedule and hold Commuter Lounge Staff meetings on a regular basis.
  • Attend all Student Center Trainings and Monthly Manager Meetings.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide monthly programming specifically geared to the needs of commuter students
  • Advertise monthly programs and commuter specific items of interest to the commuter student population
  • Update on at least once per month the Commuter Bulletin Board located in the Student Center
  • Create monthly commuter student e-newsletter
  • Write and submit at least two articles per semester for the Penmen Press
  • Address specific comments and questions on the SNHU Commuter Facebook page and other Office of Student Involvement social media properties as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Expectations:

  • Provide world class customer service
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently in difficult situations with little supervision
  • Maintain a positive attitude during all shifts and be a role model for colleagues
  • Arrive at all shifts on-time and stay until the end of the shift
  • Wear appropriately designated and provided attire
  • Attend and present at the Opening Weekend Commuter Session for first year and transfer commuter students
  • Must be committed to creating and supporting an inclusive community
  • Attend bi-weekly meeting with supervisor and employee appreciation events
  • You must be a current commuting student

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current Enrollment in classes as part of a SNHU degree program
  • Work study part of financial aid package
  • Students with Federal Work Study may be prioritized
  • Must be able to climb stairs, sit, stoop, walk and carry 50 lbs. as needed

Compensation

The hourly pay range for this position is $12.00 - $15.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations.
