The opportunity

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a student employee to fill the role of Teacher Assistant for the Polaris Charter School in Manchester, NH. Teaching Assistants at Polaris Charter School will support teachers in creating a joyful and exciting learning environment. Polaris Teaching Assistants work with teachers of multi-age classes by assisting them with implementing a project-based, interdisciplinary curriculum.

Job Responsbilites:

  • Assisting in implementing a program of study designed to meet individual needs of students.
  • Encouraging student enthusiasm for the learning process and the development of good study habits.
  • Providing authentic observations.
  • Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups to reinforce learning concepts in order to help them master assignments.
  • Use effective oral and written expression
  • Work with the teacher in developing, in accordance with school guidelines, reasonable rules of classroom behavior and appropriate techniques that are consistently applied.
  • Work with the teacher in taking necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Work with the teacher in providing for the supervision of assigned students.
  • Share responsibility during the school day for the supervision of students in all areas of the school.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment in classes as part of a SNHU degree program
  • Work study part of financial aid package
  • Students with work study may be prioritized
  • Some experience working with children preferred

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, Flexible but during school day hours of 8:00-3:00p

Compensation

The hourly pay range for this position is $12.00 - $15.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations.
