The opportunity

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a student employee to fill the role of Visitor Services Associate for NH Audubon, at Massabesic Center (Auburn, NH) and/or the McLane Center (Concord, NH). Under direct supervision of the Center Director, greet visitors and perform retail store duties for NH Audubon’s Center. Support efforts to enhance visitor experiences while promoting our mission to protect New Hampshire’s environment for wildlife and for people.

Job Responsibilities:

  • With a friendly and professional demeanor, greet visitors to the center, including small families, large school groups, and community groups.
  • Conduct retail transactions in the Nature Shop.
  • Answer questions and provide general information to visitors about the center’s features, including hiking trails and gardens.
  • Promote education programs, volunteer opportunities, and encourage membership.
  • Answer phones and email, and direct messages to staff. Maintain cleanliness in the center with light janitorial duties.
  • Ensure building security and safety protocols are followed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment in classes as part of a SNHU degree program
  • Work study part of financial aid package
  • Students with work study may be prioritized
  • Some customer service and/or retail experience, and comfort talking to the public required.
  • Knowledge of environmental concepts and local wildlife, especially birds, preferred.
  • Will provide training to the right candidate.

Learning Outcomes:

Students will improve customer service and communication skills. Students will gain retail and cash handling experience. Students will learn critical thinking habits and gain an appreciation for environmental education concepts and teaching methods. Students will glean insight into non-profit organization operations.

Work Schedule:

Weds-Fri 4pm-5pm, plus Mon-Fri 8am-11am (Summer and Vacation Camp weeks) and additional shifts as needed per the education program schedule. Additional shifts will be scheduled monthly, usually on weekdays between 8am and 5pm. Some weekends may be required.

Compensation

The hourly pay range for this position is $12.00 - $15.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations.
