The opportunity

The Military Education Benefit Specialist I processes military education benefits for the Student Financial Services military education benefit team. This is a technical position completing military transactional work so the Department of Veterans Affairs and Tuition Assistance programs can be certified and paid to students in compliance with all federal, state and institutional policies and regulations. You will follow SNHU's set of core service and support behaviors and be dedicated to meeting the requirements of the University's needs and mission.

This is a remote friendly position (#LI-Remote) and you will report to the Assistant Director of Military Education Benefits.

In this Role:

  • You will have knowledge of VA Education Benefits and Federal Military Tuition Assistance and any special arrangements for defined military cohorts.
  • You will review course information to validate enrollment and billing to the Department of Veterans Affairs for payment of Federal Funds.
  • You will report student suspension, dismissals and conferrals to the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • You will communicate with representatives of the Department of Veterans Affairs daily to ensure accuracy.
  • You will review term by term balances in collaboration with Credit and Collection Specialists to resolve outstanding military account balances.
  • You will reconcile military payments to student accounts and military certifications and invoices to ensure record integrity.
  • You will ensure the quality of student records in Enrollment Manager and our Student Information Systems (SIS) – Ellucian, Banner. Deadlines for internal and external reporting must be strictly followed.
  • You will work with Admission Counselors and students to ensure all applicable documents are received so students can use their Military Education Benefits as a funding source.
  • You will maintain accurate coding for all Military Student Accounts in the SIS.
  • You will assist the Military Education Benefit Processing team with projects, reports, and other requests

What we're Looking For:

  • HSD/GED and 1+ years' experience in the field of military benefit certifications, military student service, invoicing, financial aid, registrar, or bursar functions.
  • 1+ years of experience with Banner.
  • Strong oral and written skills.
  • Employment is dependent upon successful access to the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS), which requires all federal loans to be in good standing and not in default; and a credit check to review that student loans are not default.
  • Knowledge of VA Education Benefits and Federal Military Tuition Assistance and any special arrangements for defined military cohorts.

Compensation

The annual pay range for this position is $38,750.00 - $62,010.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations. We expect this position to be hired in the following target hiring range $42,818.00 - $57,930.00.
