The opportunity

Southern New Hampshire University is looking for a dedicated Campus Public Safety Officer to help ensure the safety and security of our traditional residential campus and remote properties. Reporting to the Operations Lead of Public Safety, you'll help maintain a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Schedule:

  • Sunday: 7:30 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays: 4:00 PM – 2:30 AM
  • Includes working holidays
  • Mandatory overtime approximately three times per year

What you'll do:

  • Patrol campus and remote properties on foot, bicycle, or in a marked security vehicle
  • Respond to calls for service including escorts, vehicle assists, medical emergencies, and student/staff conduct or mental health concerns
  • Take appropriate action based on university and departmental policies; assist victims in filing police complaints when needed
  • Investigate incidents involving assault, including sexual and aggravated assaults
  • Collaborate to de-escalate emotionally charged situations, reduce safety hazards, and prevent violations of university policies
  • Conduct preliminary investigations and submit complete, legible, and timely reports for incidents, accidents, and service calls
  • Provide security escorts, monitor surveillance cameras, manage access control, and assist campus visitors
  • Enforce traffic and parking regulations; direct traffic, assist motorists, issue citations, and arrange towing when necessary
  • Support university officials and coordinate with law enforcement, fire, and EMS personnel during campus incidents
  • Serve as the university's first responder to emergencies including criminal incidents, fires, chemical spills, medical emergencies, and natural disasters
  • Perform fire prevention and general safety tasks including equipment inspections and fire drills
  • Act as officer in charge during the absence of a shift supervisor and oversee daily operations
  • Understand and uphold compliance standards related to Title IX and the Clery Act; issue SNHU Alerts during emergencies
  • Complete and submit a daily shift report to management
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned to support the department's mission

What we're looking for:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2+ years of relevant experience which may include military service, law enforcement, corrections, or firefighting
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving and criminal record
  • Must be able to work in all-weather elements, stand, and sit for extended periods of time including walking and climbing stairs. Must be able to lift 50 pounds

Compensation

The hourly pay range for this position is $16.94 - $27.11. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations. We expect this position to be hired in the following target hiring range $18.72 - $25.32.
