The opportunity

The Assistant Vice President Academic Technology reports directly to the Vice President of Business Technology Solutions. You will manage the reliable and predictable delivery of products and services in the technology platforms that support the learning technology ecosystem and faculty administration. We are looking for a blend of strategic and tactical responsibilities to ensure the LMS and integrated third-party platforms, Virtual Labs, and faculty applications interoperate smoothly with other important systems including the SIS, CRM, and Workday.

You will provide business-driven insight and guidance to the solution management process including understanding of the technical and our needs associated with course authoring, design and management and faculty support. The Assistant Vice President serves as a critical advisor within IT and with partners to identify opportunities with streamlining business process, data approaches, automation, latest technologies and capabilities such as generative AI. The Assistant Vice President builds strategic relationships with academic partners across academic program modalities and collaborates to facilitate system design, improve, and align solution and service delivery to the University's business operations that move the student and faculty experience. In addition to platform strategy, platform roadmap, and solution design. You will oversee ongoing development and management, tier 2 and tier 3 support, and vendor management. Operationally, the Assistant Vice President ensures that the technology ecosystem in their scope ensures the university's online business supporting over 200K students, around 10,000 faculty and 15-25 terms per year, in addition to ensuring 24x7x365 availability of the technology stack.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead an enterprise learning management system team including solution delivery and operations delivery of systems and services and support of business processes to help deliver academic programs including Global Campus (online) and University Campus (face-to-face) core offerings, Competency-based education (CBE), international programs, special programs. – all with a variety of academic offerings, faculty models, student support, and academic content curation/creation models.
  • Partner with leaders across ITS for aligned vision around the end-to-end student experience to ensure technology solutions in the academic experience are cohesive in that journey. Align platform roadmaps for the LMS, virtual labs, and faculty apps to data architecture strategy, support and communication strategy, and business process architecture.
  • Align with Business Technology Solutions leaders on solution delivery and operational standards to ensure operational practices across major technology platforms.
  • Promote the technical roadmap to support continuous improvement and progress to the educational technology ecosystem from new features in the learning environment, data lifecycle management and support for analytics, and changing approaches to teaching and learning with advances in generative AI.
  • Manage adoption, integration, configuration, and deployment for the full-spectrum solution portfolio necessary to ensure student learning. Promote partner adoption of learning technologies and manage analysis of platform and operational data to guide the continuous improvement of the learning experience.
  • Lead large vendor relationships (LMS and faculty apps) and third-party software companies at the university level, while working with partners that manage other content and smaller third-party vendors and software/services. Lead internal communication strategy to provide regular updates, including executive level updates.
  • Lead internal organization of 1Edtech-related activities, including engagement and coordination of partners.
  • Collaborate with important partners across content strategy to support shifting content management and authoring capabilities across the academic portfolio.
  • Manage a portfolio of products, services, and vendors that extend capabilities in the learning technology ecosystem beyond the LMS, including virtual labs, academic integrity tools, and other enterprise-wide academic technology tools.
  • Coach people and product managers on building a positive work culture that collaborates with other university teams across both Agile and traditional project management approaches.
  • Create viable business cases including effort and budget estimates, staffing information, sourcing information, and risk mitigation plans.
  • Collaborate with teams responsible for strategies related to data, AI, analytics, infrastructure, and information security to inform on capabilities related to platforms and to align strategy and effort towards institutionally defined goals.
  • Work with the portfolio management teams and project managers to objectively evaluate vendor delivery performance versus schedule, cost, and quality and provide feedback on a periodic basis to vendor.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

What We're Looking For:

  • 15+ years of experience in solution delivery and technology operations.
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience leading digital educational technologies and systems.
  • Experience leading digital educational technology-focused teams.
  • Experience promoting a culture of data-informed decision-making across delivery and operations.
  • Experience developing management skills and general understanding of learning design and faculty management to supporting technology solutions for related business processes.
  • Experience applying data to align solution delivery with our goals and streamlining operations.
  • Experience in a University setting, supporting teaching and learning with technology.

Compensation

The annual pay range for this position is $121,649.00 - $194,676.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations. We expect this position to be hired in the following target hiring range $134,423.00 - $181,867.00.
