The opportunity

Southern New Hampshire University is currently seeking one student employee to support the School of Engineering, Technology, and Aeronautics (SETA) in the development and maintenance of a digital lab inventory system, as well as the organization and upkeep of engineering laboratory resources. Reporting to the Engineering Lab Facilitator, the student worker will assist with maintaining accurate records of electronic, mechanical, and robotics components across multiple labs, while also contributing to the ongoing development and improvement of an internal inventory management platform.

This position provides hands-on experience at the intersection of engineering practice, data management, and software development, and offers opportunities to build transferable skills in technical documentation, systems thinking, and professional collaboration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with organizing, cataloging, and maintaining components and equipment in electrical, robotics, and related engineering labs (Professionalism, Technology)
  • Enter, validate, and maintain inventory data for electronic and mechanical components using a database-backed inventory system (Technology, Critical Thinking)
  • Support data cleanup and migration from legacy spreadsheets into the new inventory platform (Critical Thinking, Career & Self-Development)
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to define and refine workflows for tracking components, locations, and quantities (Communication, Teamwork)
  • Assist with testing, documenting, and improving features of the lab inventory system, including user interfaces and import tools (Technology, Critical Thinking)
  • Help ensure inventory accuracy through periodic audits and physical verification of lab storage locations (Professionalism, Technology)
  • Contribute to documentation and training materials for future users of the inventory system (Communication, Career & Self-Development)
  • Adapt to evolving lab and project needs, including occasional assistance with fabrication, assembly, or prototyping tasks (Professionalism)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment in an Undergraduate Day program at SNHU
  • Eligible for Federal Work Study as part of their financial aid package
  • In good academic standing
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing (Communication)
  • Basic comfort working with spreadsheets, structured data, or technical documentation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Self-motivated with an interest in improving systems and processes (Career & Self-Development)
  • Interest in electrical engineering, robotics, computer science, or related technical fields (Technology)
  • Familiarity with basic programming concepts, databases, or web technologies (Technology)

  • Prior experience with lab environments, makerspaces, or technical projects is a plus

Compensation

The hourly pay range for this position is $12.00 - $15.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations.
