The opportunity

Southern New Hampshire University is currently seeking a Graduate Assistant for the SNHU Center for New Americans. This role supports the daily operation of the Amiko Youth Program, an after-school youth program, by preparing and serving dinner for approximately 50 children in a commercial kitchen setting. The position is fully in-person and involves hands-on food preparation, kitchen cleanup, and collaboration on weekly menus. We are committed to training the right candidate and will provide all required certifications. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Obtain ServSafe Kitchen Manager Certification. This requires completion of a short course and an online exam, which will be paid for by the Center for New Americans.
  • Prepare and serve dinner using preplanned menus for approximately 50 children, Monday through Thursday, in a commercial kitchen space.
  • Manage daily kitchen operations, including dishwashing and sanitizing all food preparation and service surfaces.
  • Co-create weekly menus and shopping lists for youth programming, in collaboration with the Nutrition Program Manager, ensuring compliance with federal nutrition requirements and culturally appropriate guidelines.
  • Provide staffing support for the Center for New Americans after-school youth program. Responsibilities include setting up program spaces, engaging with participants, and completing additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Enrollment in a graduate program at Southern New Hampshire University.
  • Previous experience working with children in a camp or school setting.
  • Strong interest in nutrition education or a culinary career pathway.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across cultures.
  • Preferred qualification: Experience with food preparation or working in a kitchen setting.

Work Hours

This position is required to be in person at the SNHU Center for New Americans in downtown Manchester, New Hampshire, Monday through Thursday from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, for a total of 16 hours per week. Remote work on Fridays is available if additional hours are desired, up to a maximum of 20 hours per week.

Compensation

The hourly pay range for this position is $12.00 - $15.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations.
