The opportunity

At SNHU, we are committed to fostering sustainability and promoting environmental stewardship within our community. The Tree Campus Eco‑Rep contributes to these efforts by supporting SNHU’s Arboretum, landscape, and Tree Campus USA designation through hands‑on stewardship, volunteer engagement, and sustainability planning. This position provides the opportunity to develop leadership, program management, and collaboration skills while contributing to the overall sustainability efforts of the college.

Position Summary:
The Tree Campus Eco-Rep supports campus sustainability by helping manage and care for SNHU’s Arboretum and trail systems, engaging the campus community in environmental stewardship, and contributing to institutional sustainability planning related to trees and natural areas.

This role emphasizes collaboration and applied learning through maintenance activities, volunteer coordination, educational programming, and participation in Tree Campus USA certification activities. The Tree Campus EcoRep works closely with the Office of Sustainability and key campus stakeholders to strengthen SNHU’s commitment to sustainable land management and ecological health.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Arboretum Management and Planning

  • Support stewardship activities within SNHU’s Arboretum and trail network, including maintenance projects and invasive species clean ups.

  • Assist with planning and facilitating sustainability-focused service projects and educational events related to trees, native species, and natural areas.

  • Partner with internal stakeholders including Grounds Team , The Chandler Center, and student organizations, as well as external groups or organizations.

  • Identify areas for Arboretum infrastructure improvements, including signage and research

  • Tree Campus USA Certification Support

  • Support completion of SNHU’s Tree Campus USA certification.

  • Assist in organizing the Campus Tree Committee, ensuring representation from academic programs, Grounds & Facilities, and students.

  • Schedule and facilitate at least one Tree Committee meeting per academic year.

  • Work with committee members to support development of a campus Tree Management Plan.

  • Research, Planning, and Collaboration

  • Assist in research and development of a campus Invasive Species Management Plan in collaboration with both campus and external stakeholders.

  • Track participation, outcomes, and progress related to Tree Campus and Arboretum initiatives.

  • Help prepare materials, summaries, or documentation for Sustainability Office reporting and communication.

  • Eco Rep and Office Collaboration

  • Collaborate with other Eco-Reps on shared sustainability initiatives as needed.

  • Participate in large Office of Sustainability events and initiatives, including Arboretum After Dark and other programs as they arise.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled at SNHU, preferably in an environmental studies, sustainability, or related program.

  • Must live on campus or close enough to commute for 10-20 hours a week in person.

  • Strong passion for sustainability, environmental stewardship, and eco-friendly practices.

  • Desire to work outdoors in various weather conditions, both individually and as a team leader.

  • Previous involvement in sustainability initiatives or landscape/tree work is a plus.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to engage with diverse groups.

  • Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

  • Self-motivated, creative, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.

  • A great sense of humor!

**Each on campus student is expected to participate in large office initiatives including Good Stuff every Winter and Spring- week of December 25 and the last three weeks of April and first week of May, Arboretum After Dark in late October and other events as they arise.

Time Commitment:
This is a part-time position requiring approximately 10-20 hours per week. Flexible scheduling based on the academic calendar and programmatic needs.

Compensation

The hourly pay range for this position is $12.00 - $15.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations.
