The opportunity
Job Summary:
Southern New Hampshire University is currently seeking a student employee to support the School of Engineering, Technology, and Aeronautics (SETA) in preparing and facilitating a robotics-focused summer camp for middle school students. Reporting to the Engineering Lab Facilitator, the student worker will assist in the design, preparation, and execution of hands-on robotics activities.
This role is centered on supporting a week-long STEM camp where middle school students will build and learn about robotics systems. The student assistant will contribute to 3D modeling, development of assembly instructions, and supervision of robot builds. This position requires both technical skills and strong interpersonal abilities to guide younger students through structured learning activities. This opportunity provides experience in engineering design, education, and leadership in a collaborative environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and refine 3D models for robotics components and instructional materials (Technology, Critical Thinking).
- Create clear, student-friendly assembly instructions for robotics kits (Communication, Technology).
- Inspect and monitor the status and readiness of robots prior to and during the event (Critical Thinking, Professionalism).
- Assist in preparing materials and setups for the summer camp activities (Career & Self-Development, Professionalism).
- Guide and support middle school students in assembling robots and following instructions (Communication, Teamwork).
- Supervise student activities to ensure a safe and productive learning environment (Leadership, Professionalism).
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and peers to support event execution (Teamwork, Communication).
- Adapt to evolving needs during the camp to ensure successful delivery of activities (Professionalism, Career & Self-Development).
Minimum Qualifications:
- Enrollment in an Undergraduate Day program at SNHU.
- Must be in good academic standing.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing (Communication).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Major in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or related field (Technology).
- Experience with 3D modeling software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360) (Technology).
- Strong interpersonal and mentoring skills, especially working with younger students (Communication, Leadership).
- Self-motivated with a desire to learn and grow (Career & Self-Development)

Compensation
The hourly pay range for this position is $12.00 - $15.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations.
