About Imagine Worldwide

All children have immense potential, but hundreds of millions don’t have access to the learning they need. Imagine Worldwide’s mission is to empower millions of children across Sub-Saharan Africa with the literacy and numeracy skills they need to reach their full potential. We provide an innovative education technology solution and implementation model to the global literacy/numeracy learning crisis using the onebillion application and various toolkits and systems to support implementation. Nine Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) across multiple countries and settings have shown dramatic learning gains, increased school attendance, and gender parity, all for less than $7 per child per year.

Imagine Worldwide partners with governments, organizations, and communities to provide child-directed, tablet-based learning that is accessible, effective, and affordable. We are a California-based (United States) nonprofit organization operating across seven Sub-Saharan African countries. Learn more on our website.

Role Overview

Imagine aims to serve more than 10 million children over the next six years, achieving three times the typical literacy and numeracy outcomes of national education systems in Africa — at less than $5 per child per year. Becoming an increasingly product-driven organisation is essential to achieving this mission.

We are seeking a Product Manager (Platforms) to support the operations, coordination, and continuous improvement of Imagine’s learning platform and related systems. This role is ideal for a product manager early in their career who excels at structure, communication, and cross-functional problem-solving — and who is eager to grow into full product ownership within 6–12 months.

Initially, the PM (Platforms) will focus on product operations: ensuring smooth product releases, managing requirements and workflows, supporting data and analytics processes, coordinating with engineering and field teams, and maintaining documentation and product quality. As the role progresses, the PM will take ownership of components of our platform ecosystem, contributing to roadmap development and product strategy.

This role reports to Imagine’s Director of Product.

Key Responsibilities

Product Operations & Coordination (Initial Focus)

  • Maintain and improve product documentation, specifications, and release processes.
  • Coordinate development inputs: gathering requirements, clarifying dependencies, organising user stories, and tracking progress
  • Support data and analytics workflows, including monitoring dashboards, supporting instrumentation needs, and assisting in data QA.
  • Facilitate communication between engineering, IT, programs, and external partners.
  • Prepare release notes, operational guides, and internal communications.

User Insights & Quality Assurance

  • Support user research, field testing, and feedback collection from learners, facilitators, and partners.
  • Conduct structured analysis of product issues, bug trends, and usability challenges.
  • Work with engineering to triage issues and ensure timely resolution.

Platform Development & Future Product Ownership

  • Contribute to defining product vision and success metrics for specific platform components.
  • Identify opportunities to improve platform scalability, usability, and operational efficiency.
  • Translate user needs and organisational priorities into clear requirements and product briefs.
  • Take end-to-end ownership of selected features or subsystems, from discovery to delivery.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with educators, engineers, designers, program teams, and local partners.
  • Support field visits to understand user behaviour and operational contexts.
  • Help ensure that platform features are robust, contextually relevant, and optimised for low-bandwidth, low-resource environments.

Requirements

  • 2–4+ years of product management or product operations experience, ideally in a technical, platform, or systems-oriented environment.
  • Strong organisational and operational skills, with experience coordinating product processes.
  • Ability to translate complex needs into structured requirements and documentation.
  • Technical fluency and comfort working with engineering teams.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work async across distributed teams.

Specific skills (required)

  • Experience with tablet-based, mobile-first, or offline-first applications.
  • Familiarity with Sub-Saharan African contexts or work in emerging markets.
  • Exposure to educational technology, learning science, or child-focused products.
  • Experience working in nonprofits, social enterprises, or government/NGO partnerships.
  • Comfort with analytics workflows (dashboards, instrumentation, metrics).

Compensation & Benefits

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.

Location

The role is fully remote but must be based on the African continent. International travel to field sites will be required at least every second month, or up to once a month.
