ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY & RESPONSIBILITIES

Inkomoko, a fast-paced and growing organization across Africa, is seeking a dynamic Media and Public Relations Manager to strengthen our visibility across the region and position Inkomoko on global platforms.

We are looking for candidates who bring a strong understanding of both regional and international media landscapes, with proven success in securing earned media, building journalist relationships, and elevating brands through strategic storytelling. This role reports to the Director of Communications.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute earned media strategies that enhance brand visibility, reputation, and growth across East Africa and international markets.
  • Proactively pitch and secure high-impact media coverage in regional, pan-African, and global outlets.
  • Build, maintain, and deepen relationships with relevant journalists, editors, and media outlets worldwide.
  • Plan and coordinate media events including press briefings, desk-side interviews, roundtables, and other visibility moments.
  • Coordinate and manage all media-specific and PR-related content, including press releases, op-eds, speeches, interview briefs, and media kits.
  • Track, analyze, and report on media coverage, key performance indicators, and public sentiment to inform strategy adjustments.
  • Organize and manage speaking opportunities for executives, ensuring alignment with Inkomoko’s strategic priorities.
  • Support executive positioning and thought leadership initiatives, placing op-eds, interviews, and commentary on global platforms.
  • Provide spokesperson training and talking points preparation to ensure effective and consistent media engagement.
  • Collaborate closely with digital, marketing, and social media teams to amplify earned media opportunities across owned channels.
  • Contribute to crisis communications planning and response to manage reputational risks when necessary.
  • Support partner coordination to strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, funders, and media partners.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

This Public Relations & Media Relations Manager will play a critical role in driving Inkomoko’s visibility, credibility, and brand recognition. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, action-oriented, collaborative, and creative, with a passion for storytelling and a deep understanding of the African media ecosystem and beyond. This position is open only to candidates residing in our countries of operation: Rwanda, Ethiopia, Kenya, South Sudan, and Chad.

  • Minimum of 8 years of proven experience in public relations and media relations, including demonstrated experience leading strategic communications initiatives and managing teams, preferably in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage communications and PR agencies or consultants across East Africa and/or internationally.
  • Strong track record of proactively pitching and securing coverage in regional and global media outlets.
  • Outstanding writing, editing, and communication skills with the ability to create compelling, media-ready content.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Experience tracking and analyzing media outcomes and KPIs to measure communications impact.
  • Experience supporting reputation management and crisis communications preferred.
  • Ability to coordinate executive speaking opportunities and external thought leadership efforts.
  • Collaborative mindset with an ability to work cross-functionally with marketing, digital, and content teams.
  • Strong understanding of media dynamics and cultural context across East Africa.
  • Experience in entrepreneurship, economic development, financial inclusion, humanitarian, or similar sectors preferred.
  • Proficiency in local languages and cultural understanding of the East African region is a plus.
