ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY & RESPONSIBILITIES

We seek a strategic and enterprise-minded Vice President (VP) of Finance to strengthen financial systems, enhance decision-making, and support Inkomoko’s growth across diverse markets.

Reporting to the CFO, this leader will oversee key finance functions, Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), Controllership, and Treasury & Grant Management, while mentoring a team of Directors. This role requires a balance of high-level strategic leadership and hands-on operational oversight in a fast-paced, values-driven organization.

This is a highly collaborative role, requiring a leader who can operate with both strategic foresight and operational rigor, and who brings a values-aligned approach to performance, equity, and accountability. The position holder can be based at any of Inkomoko’s country offices in Africa (Chad, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan).

Specifically, the responsibilities include:

Strategic Financial Leadership

  • Support the CFO in developing and executing the long term financial strategy aligned to Vision 2030, ensuring sustainability and growth.
  • Provide financial insights and analysis to guide decision making and strategic planning.
  • Oversee development and execution of department level Balanced Scorecards
  • Oversee the preparation of financial statements and Board Finance and Audit Committee reports, ensuring Board-level readiness and presentation by the CFO.
  • Translate complex financial data into actionable insights for the Board and senior leaders, while building ownership across departments.

Financial Oversight and Enterprise Stewardship

  • Lead a multi-country finance team across three verticals: FP&A, Controllership and Treasury & Grants fostering collaboration and clarity across functions.
  • Lead organisational financial planning, modeling, and risk scenario analysis across diverse geographies and currencies.
  • Ensure best in class financial systems, internal controls and policies are in place and continuously improved to efficiently support programs and operations.
  • Ensure timely and accurate month end, quarter end and year end close processes.
  • Oversee financial reporting, audits, statutory filings, ensuring compliance with IFRS.
  • Financial analysis using data to identify opportunities for efficiency and provide insights to drive decision making.
  • Collaborate with Program teams to ensure alignment of program delivery with budgeted resources and financial stewardship across all grants.

Team Leadership and Culture

  • Lead, mentor and grow a high performing, multi country finance team through coaching, performance management, and succession planning.
  • Align the finance team’s work and culture with Inkomoko’s values and talent framework, emphasizing learning, inclusion, and impact.

Organizational Change and Systems

  • Provide strategic financial leadership in enterprise-wide initiatives—including system overhauls and market expansion—ensuring scalable, compliant, and impact-aligned financial infrastructure.
  • Promote innovation and digitization of finance systems to support future growth with empathy, clarity, and enterprise-mindedness.
  • Elevate financial literacy and strategic ownership among senior leaders, embedding financial acumen into enterprise decision-making.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • 15+ years of progressive financial leadership, with at least 5 years in Director, VP or other senior-level roles in global or multi-country organizations.
  • Expertise in financial planning and analysis, leading the budgeting process across large multi- jurisdictional operations, and managing treasury and compliance functions.
  • Experience managing multi-currency operations, donor-funded revenue in a fast paced environment.
  • Strong systems and data mindset, with knowledge of ERP implementation and performance dashboards.
  • Proven ability to lead high-performing teams across countries and functions.
  • Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills, a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-financial audiences.
  • Experience working in or supporting organizations that operate in Africa, especially in entrepreneurial, refugee, or development contexts.
  • A values-driven, curious, and collaborative leader who is energized by solving problems and enabling others to succeed
  • Willingness to travel internationally up to 30% of the time, depending on organizational needs
  • CPA/ACCA or advanced degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field required.
  • Deep commitment to equity, economic inclusion and Inkomoko’s mission.
  • Lived experience of displacement is highly valued and encouraged for leadership roles at Inkomoko.
