ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Credit Risk and Analytics is responsible for leading and overseeing the back-office functions that underpin Inkomoko’s financial services operations. This role provides strategic direction and operational oversight across risk management, digital systems, and analytics to ensure scalable, data-driven, and compliant delivery of Inkomoko’s lending and investment activities. The Director ensures high performance of departmental teams and alignment with the organization’s impact goals through strategic foresight, strong cross-functional collaboration, and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
Departmental Leadership & Strategy
- Provide strategic direction for all back-office credit functions, including credit operations, risk monitoring, reconciliations, and portfolio analytics, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and 5-year outlook.
- Design and implement enterprise-wide credit risk and digital financial strategies that balance growth and sustainability.
- Oversee the department’s Balanced Scorecard implementation, ensuring KPIs are met and resources are effectively deployed.
Risk Management Oversight - Develop and embed robust second line of defense systems, including credit policy enforcement, risk monitoring frameworks, reconciliations, and compliance protocols.
- Surface emerging risks and lead proactive mitigation initiatives across countries, ensuring portfolio sustainability.
- Champion risk-based thinking across all investment and product functions, embedding a culture of accountability and foresight.
Technology and Systems Oversight
- Oversee the evolution and strategic use of the Core Banking System, ensuring it supports operational efficiency, scalability, and user experience.
- Lead development of credit scoring algorithms, early warning systems, and digital lending innovations that enhance decision-making and client engagement.
- Ensure technology adoption across back-office credit workflows to strengthen controls and improve client outcomes.
Data & Analytics for Decision Making
- Drive the delivery of timely, accurate, and insightful dashboards and performance reports to inform leadership decisions.
- Lead development of predictive analytics and performance forecasting models to anticipate portfolio trends.
- Collaborate with cross-functional leaders on financial modeling and scenario planning to guide strategy.
Team Development and Collaboration
- Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of managers and specialists across risk, systems, credit operations, and analytics.
- Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and collaboration across front- and back-office credit functions.
- Cascade coaching, feedback, and accountability to strengthen execution and ownership.
Compliance & Regulatory Readiness
- Ensure credit risk, systems, and digital finance protocols comply with regulatory standards across all countries of operation.
- Proactively assess compliance risks and maintain readiness for internal and external audits.
- Align policies and systems with evolving industry regulations and best practices.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WITH:
- Master’s degree in Finance, Risk Management, Information Systems, or related field.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in risk, systems, or operations in banking, fintech, or financial inclusion environments.
- At least 5 years in a senior leadership or cross-functional management role.
- Experience managing Core Banking Systems, digital financial platforms, or enterprise risk systems.
- Experience working in multi-country operations and regulatory contexts.
- Knowledge of digital lending, microfinance, or financial inclusion in underserved markets.
