Jan Sahas was established in the year 2000 when a group of concerned individuals came together to address the issue of the deaths of a child labourer and two adults at a firecracker factory in Ujjain. Recognising the need for sustained regular intervention and a rigorous approach, Jan Sahas was formed with a vision for comprehensive systemic reform in the areas of forced labour and violence against women and children in marginalised communities. Over the years, the organisation has evolved a comprehensive framework of prevention, response, rehabilitation, and systemic reform to realise its goal of societal transformation. Today, Jan Sahas is working in multiple states across India and carries out concentrated capacity building and advocacy efforts with state and civil society organisations. Vision: Dignity & Equality for All Mission: Eliminate sexual violence and forced labour with a focus on the most excluded social groups. Impact: Our work enables us to have a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals and families. At this moment, more than 7,000 changemakers are working towards social change across various parts of India. Sexual Violence Against Women and Children: More than 20,000 survivors of rape and sexual violence gaining support for access to justice and rehabilitation. ₹4.3 crore compensation received by survivors from the government. 722 survivors and their families receiving livelihoods support.
