About Karya:
Why was Karya on the cover of the Time Magazine , highlighted by Satya Nadella , and invited to present its work to Sundar Pichai one on one?

In part, because Karya is on a mission to provide AI enabled earning and learning opportunities to communities with high talent, but low access to opportunities. Karya achieves this while also delivering high quality, timely, and price competitive data to its clients.

Karya builds high quality datasets for large companies like Google and Microsoft, while providing ethical work opportunities and fair wages to its workforce.

Karya’s workers make nearly 20 times the Indian minimum wage and through our one-of-a-kind digital work platform, we have delivered over 40 million digital tasks and have positively impacted over 100 thousand workers. In the coming years, our goal is to rapidly scale our impact by bringing economic opportunities to millions of underserved users in India. With a rapidly growing global presence, we are also looking to expand our client base in the Indian market by partnering with leading Indian enterprises.

About the Role:

Karya is looking for a fast-moving, imaginative, and collaborative Video & Motion Designer who can bring Karya’s ideas to life across two fronts:

  • Instructional & Learning Videos — clear, respectful, easy-to-follow training content for rural, multilingual, and first-time digital audiences.

  • Brand & Storytelling Motion Design — compelling visual storytelling for funders, partners, and external stakeholders that captures Karya’s impact and identity.

From animated explainers and product walkthroughs to motion-led campaigns and reels, you’ll help define how video and motion shape Karya’s voice. This role sits within the Storytelling Team and collaborates closely with Product Design, Instructional Design, Marketing and Brand teams

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Karya Learn team to storyboard and visualise scenes — especially for low-literacy or first-time smartphone users.
  • Prototype and produce different video formats: static + audio, animation, voiceover-driven explainers, reels, social motion graphics, and more.
  • Translate scripts, concepts, and brand narratives into engaging video stories and tutorials.
  • Experiment with tools like AI image generators, 2D animation platforms (After Effects, Canva Animate, Premiere Pro), and lightweight editors.
  • Collaborate with:
    • Content writers, translators, and instructional designers for clarity and accuracy.
    • Product and learning teams to align with real user needs.
    • Design and brand teams, to ensure consistency in motion identity, polish collaterals, and maintain brand cohesion across mediums.
  • Ensure every video is respectful, intuitive, and quick to grasp for diverse Indian audiences.
  • Work within tight timelines — balancing speed and quality.

What we're looking for:

  • 2+ years of experience with graphic design, video design, motion graphics, or instructional media.
  • A strong sense of visual structure, pacing, and narrative clarity.
  • Ability to storyboard and simplify complex ideas quickly.
  • Comfort with tools like:
    • After Effects, Premiere Pro, Canva Animate, Lottiefiles
    • AI image/video generators (Midjourney, DALL·E, Runway, etc.)
  • Curiosity about how people learn and absorb information visually.
  • Experience designing for low-literacy, multilingual, or rural audiences (a plus)

Bonus points if you:

  • Have worked in edutainment, Non-profits, public-interest tech, or education products.
  • Can toggle between instructional clarity and brand creativity.
  • Are comfortable with rapid experimentation — low fidelity first, polish later.
  • Have knowledge of Indian languages or regional media ecosystems.
  • Bring your own ideas about how motion design can elevate brand storytelling.

Why This Role Matters

Karya’s work reaches communities often excluded from mainstream technology, design, and media. We’re reimagining how tech connects with people — and video is one of the most powerful bridges. Whether it’s teaching someone how to use a smartphone app for the first time, or creating a motion identity that resonates globally, your work will shape how Karya shows up to the world.

Factors for Success at Karya

  • Deep commitment to equity, inclusion, and economic empowerment through design.
  • Empathy for underserved users and sensitivity to their learning needs.
  • Resourceful, curious, and proactive in solving design challenges.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, mission-driven teams.

What We Offer

  • Flexible leave and vacation policy
  • Hybrid work options
  • Insurance as per industry standards
  • Access to leaders in technology and social impact sectors
  • A chance to contribute meaningfully to AI, digital equity, and rural development

Karya celebrates diversity and is an equal opportunity employer. All applicants will be considered without regard to race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected status.
