POSITION SUMMARY:

The Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS) Specialist will perform data entry, including student attendance and grades, to the Texas Education Agency (TEA). This position will maintain accurate attendance records for the school.

  • Collect and enter attendance and PEIMS data into established database
  • Verify accuracy of data entered according to established procedures
  • Prepare and print reports, including attendance reports, grades, class or personnel rosters, end-of-semester reports
  • Maintain physical and computerized records, including student cumulative folders, progress and failure reports, class rosters, grade books, and schedule changes if applicable
  • Process new student records, including requesting transcripts and records from other schools, setting up cumulative folder, and entering student data into appropriate databases
  • Assist parents, students, and faculty with questions regarding student attendance
  • Process and transmit requests for student information and transcripts
  • Call parents to verify student absences as needed
  • Report student attendance problems to designated administrator
  • Participate in meetings and trainings
  • Administrative duties, responsibilities, and activities may be assigned or changed from time to time

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of Texas Education Data Standards and data collection
  • Knowledge of student attendance accounting
  • Ability to cooperatively collaborate with school staff and instructional departments in a timely, responsive manner to meet business needs and reach company goals
  • Ability to independently take initiative and work efficiently, exercising reasonable judgment in a fast-paced, multi-task environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Data analysis and reporting
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and demonstrate problem-solving skills, while maintaining diplomacy, courtesy, professionalism, and a customer service attitude

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of High School Diploma or GED certificate required
  • 2 years experience in a public school position requiring data collection and reporting
  • Skilled in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Proficient in public education information management or student systems

TRAVEL: Ability to travel in performance of job duties.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Mental Demands: Ability to handle multiple competing projects and assignments; High workflow
  • Finger Dexterity; using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together.
  • Speech clarity, oral expression; written expression, talking; especially where one must convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Average Hearing; able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.
  • Average Visual Abilities; ordinary acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or operate machinery.
  • Physical Strength; sedentary work. Sitting most of the time. Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally (almost all office jobs).
  • Frequent multi-tasking, changing of task priorities, repetitious exacting work required.
  • Working in a noisy, distracting environment with frequent deadline pressures.
