JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION SUMMARY:

Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting the head coach in supervising student-athletes and in working with school leadership to implement the sports program at the assigned school. Assistant Coach supports coaching staff in conducting practices, motivating individuals and teams, and instructing student-athletes in game strategies and techniques.

Essential Duties:

  • Assist with instruction in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport
  • Organize and direct individual and small group practice activities and exercises as directed
  • Support Head Coach in supervision of student-athletes during practices and competition
  • Evaluate players skills and maintain fairness to all student-athletes
  • Inform Head Coach of the athletic performance and general behavior of student-athletes
  • Collaborate with Head Coach on determining game strategy
  • Follow established procedures in the event of an athletes injury or other emergency
  • Model good sportsmanship and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, parents, officials, spectators, and school staff
  • Maintain equipment in an orderly condition and assume responsibility for its security and transport
  • Distribute and collect equipment, supplies, and uniforms to student-athletes as directed
  • Assist head coach with submitting team rosters
  • Participate in special events to include parents night, banquets & award nights
  • Perform support tasks such as outreach to parents and distributing and collecting eligibility forms
  • Report any issues within the team or with specific student-athletes to Head Coach
  • Administrative duties, responsibilities, and activities may be assigned or changed from time to time

Student-Athlete Interaction:

  • Provide leadership and develop team first attitude with student-athletes
  • Stay after games and practices until all students are picked up
  • Support communication between school and community for student athletic activities
  • Work with School Administrators to verify eligibility of student-athletes
  • Work with coaches and all school staff to ensure safety and welfare of students

Supervision Responsibilities:

Assist the Coach in managing student-athletes before, during and after sports events

Qualifications

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, ETC:

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of leadership, morale building and proper sportsmanship
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Good interpersonal communication skills with an ability to work with student-athletes, faculty and general public in a diplomatic, friendly and efficient manner
  • Knowledge of rules, equipment, tactics, safety and conditioning aspects of Interscholastic Sports

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates Degree or equivalent completion of two-years of college study, preferred
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of specific sport being coached
  • TB Test Clearance(Waived for current Learn4Life employees)
  • Live Scan and Background Check(Waived for current Learn4Life employees)
  • Driving Record Check; Valid Driver License and auto insurance

TRAVEL: Ability to travel up to 40% is required in performance of duties.

WORK SCHEDULE: This position will include assignments at off-campus sites, days, evenings, or weekends.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to observe general outdoor surroundings and engage in physical activities
  • General physical activities that require considerable use of arms, legs and moving whole body
  • Wear specialized protective fitness, sports or safety gear as necessary
  • Finger Dexterity: using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together
  • Talking: especially where one must convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly
  • Average Hearing: able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information
  • Average Visual Abilities: ordinary acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or operate machinery
  • Requires regular climbing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting and grasping
  • Frequent multi-tasking, changing of task priorities, repetitious exacting work required
  • Working in a noisy, distracting environment with frequent deadline pressures
