JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION SUMMARY:

Position is responsible for supervising student-athletes and working with school leadership and coaching staff to organize the sports program at the assigned school. Position conducts practices, motivates individuals and teams, and instructs student-athletes in game strategies and techniques.

Essential Duties:

  • Instruct student-athletes in the rules, regulations, equipment, and technique of the specific sport
  • Supervise players during practice and competition
  • Evaluate players skills and maintain fairness to all student-athletes
  • Collaborate with coaching staff to determine game strategy
  • Build Coach's Binder with all essential forms and carry to all sporting activities
  • Ensure distribution, collection and maintenance of current student-athlete records
  • Maintain student-athlete roster and submit list as directed
  • Follow established procedures and protocols in the event of an athletes injury or other emergency
  • Model good sportsmanship and maintain appropriate conduct towards players, parents, officials, spectators and school staff
  • Maintain equipment, facilities, and playing field in orderly condition
  • Distribute and collect equipment, supplies, and uniforms to student-athletes as directed
  • Attend regular school and sports program meetings and collaborate with school staff
  • Submit regular reports on team status
  • Participate in special events to include parents night, banquets & award nights
  • Perform support tasks such as outreach to parents and engagement with partners
  • Pursue growth and sustainability efforts such as recruitment and new team development as directed
  • Report any issues within team or with specific student-athletes to Athletic Coordinator or Principal
  • Administrative duties, responsibilities, and activities may be assigned or changed from time to time

Student-Athlete Interaction:

  • Provide leadership and develop team-first attitude with student-athletes
  • Stay after games and practices until all students are picked up
  • Support communication between school and community for student athletic activities
  • Contribute to representation of school sports programs at conferences and events
  • Work with Athletic Coordinator and school staff to verify eligibility of student-athletes
  • Work with all school staff to ensure safety and welfare of students
  • Responsible for knowledge of student-athlete transportation

SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage student-athletes before, during and after sports events
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report on Assistant Coaches performance

Qualifications

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, ETC:

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of leadership, morale building and proper sportsmanship
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Coaching Certification
  • Good interpersonal communication skills with an ability to work with student-athletes, coaching staff, faculty and general public in a diplomatic, friendly and efficient manner
  • Knowledge of rules, equipment, tactics, safety and conditioning aspects of Interscholastic Sports

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent completion of 4 years of college study, preferred
  • Demonstrated school leadership experience and knowledge of specific sport being coached
  • Proficient in MS Office(Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) programs
  • TB Test Clearance (Waived for current Learn4Life employees)
  • Live Scan and Background Check (Waived for current Learn4Life employees)
  • Driving Record Check; Valid Driver License and auto insurance

TRAVEL: Ability to travel up to 40% is required in performance of duties.

WORK SCHEDULE: This position will include assignments at off-campus sites, days, evenings, or weekends.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to observe general outdoor surroundings and engage in physical activities
  • General physical activities that require considerable use of arms, legs and moving whole body
  • Wear specialized protective fitness, sports or safety gear as necessary
  • Finger Dexterity; using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together
  • Talking; especially where one must convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately or quickly. May be necessary to project voice loudly during sporting events or in field settings
  • Average Hearing; able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information
  • Average Visual Abilities; ordinary acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or operate machinery
  • Requires regular climbing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting and grasping
  • Frequent multi-tasking, changing of task priorities, repetitious exacting work required
  • Working in a noisy, distracting environment in office or fields with frequent deadline pressures
