How You Will Make an Impact

The Director of External Affairs - School Outreach & Services is responsible for developing and managing strategic relationships with educational institutions and community organizations to enhance the organization’s presence and impact within the educational sector. This role involves leading outreach initiatives, coordinating school-based programs, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals and community needs. This position reports to the Chief External Affairs Officer or designee.

  • Develop, maintain, and grow relationships with key/designated school boards and county offices of education.
  • Build and maintain relationships with charter school associations and other non-classroom-based supporters.
  • Provide training to school leadership and outreach staff on outreach strategies and relationship building.
  • Participate in the development of outreach plans and provide area specific information.
  • Attend and monitor school board and board of education meetings.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to implement School Outreach strategy and action plans to drive student enrollment.
  • Collaborate with the External Affairs team on communication plans related to community relations with diverse communities.
  • Collaborate with Expansion leadership on new outreach initiatives and assist with implementation.
  • Represent the company effectively in a variety of settings and with diverse communities.
  • Serve as liaison to strategic partnership agencies and conduct presentations.
  • Review and make recommendations on outreach materials created by the Marketing team.
  • Make recommendations to resource center signage in areas critical to our strategic expansion plans.
  • Assist in strategies to increase schools and grow enrollment.
  • Assist with new charter petitions and charter renewal strategy.
  • Support legislative efforts.
  • Perform administrative duties, responsibilities, and activities as assigned. These may be changed or modified from time to time.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: manage, coordinate, supervise, coach, and direct the hiring, training, timely performance evaluations of team members, oversee their daily activities and oversee the daily workflow of the department.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, policies, and procedures relevant to the area of employment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or 2 years equivalent work experience demonstrating applicable skills in relevant. industry or discipline. Equivalent experience is included in and not separate from total years of professional experience is required.
  • 3 years of experience in school and community relations, partner development, coalition work, and working with diverse community is required.
  • 2 years of combination experience in a leadership and management role is required.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in project management, program development, organizing, prioritizing, coordinating, implementing, and managing multiple programs, projects, tasks and building teams.
  • Strong autonomy, reliable, responsible, dependable and willingness to take on responsibilities and challenges.
  • Proficient level of skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other technology applications.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% in performance of job duties is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Vision: Ability to read small print and view a computer screen for prolong periods, prepare, or inspect documents and operate office equipment.

  • Strength: Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
  • Environmental Requirements: Ability to encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work indoors. Prolonged period sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Work in a low to moderate noise environment with frequent deadline pressures.
