ALTA VISTA INNOVATION HIGH SCHOOL

Full Time, Monday - Friday; 9 a.m. -3 p.m., or 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

This position is funded through the Prop 28 (AMS) – Arts & Music in Schools Grant.

This position provides support to various school sites within the region, including Inglewood, Gardena, Lincoln, Watts, East LA, and Los Angeles. The role may require travel between locations to meet site-specific needs.

COMPENSATION:

Clear Credential: $79,500/year - $100,700/year
Preliminary Credential: $68,900/year
Intern Credential: $66,144/year

How You Will Make an Impact

Teach engaging art class(es) for K-12 grade students. The General Art Teacher will ensure a positive, fun, supportive and creative experience for all students.

  • Teach a range of art appreciation instruction including fundamentals of color, shape, hand technique, dimension, layout, and design.
  • Communicate instruction to students in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Prepare materials for instruction.
  • Be on time and prepared for class to start at the designated time.
  • Provide set-up / clean-up and any other tasks, as arranged in advance.
  • Work with the Educational Administrators to plan classes.
  • Communicate regularly with Educational Staff and Parents about student progress.
  • Participate in departmental resource and program enhancement.
  • Maintain currency in art and design techniques/method.
  • Participate in school activities that facilitate student learning and achievement.
  • Administrative duties, responsibilities, and activities may be assigned or changed from time to time
  • Adhere to attendance policies.

Qualifications

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, ETC:

  • Ability to convey ideas in the classroom with enthusiasm and creativity.
  • Exhibit a sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of K-12 students
  • Ability to interact successfully with a broad student population and work with various learning styles.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor of Arts Degree preferred, or equivalent experience/mastery in the field.
  • Teaching credential or certification in Art a plus
  • English Learner Authorization
  • Strong teaching and interpersonal skills
  • Experience arranging student art shows and exhibits.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Mental Demands: high workflow management, high project coordination
  • Finger Dexterity: using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together.
  • Talking: especially where one must convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Average Hearing: able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.
  • Average Visual Abilities: ordinary acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or operate machinery.
  • Physical Strength: sedentary work. Sitting most of the time. Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally (almost all office jobs).
  • Frequent multi-tasking, changing of task priorities, repetitious exacting work required.
  • Working in a noisy, distracting environment with frequent deadline pressures.
