Role Overview

The MEL Associate will play a key role in strengthening Matis impact measurement systems, ESG tracking, and organizational learning. This is an impact-focused position responsible for reviewing and upgrading our current MEL framework, ensuring data-driven decision-making, and providing credible reporting for stakeholders, investors, and certification bodies. The role involves extensive field engagement, rigorous data analysis, report preparation, and close collaboration with the Business Excellence team

Key Responsibilities:

The MEL Associate will lead a comprehensive review and enhancement of Matis Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning approach, including but not limited to:

  1. Strategic Frameworks
    • Update and refine Matis Organizational Theory of Change to reflect evolving priorities and impact pathways.

  2. Indicators & Tools
    • Review and revise existing impact indicators to ensure they are measurable, relevant, and aligned with ESG and carbon removal goals.

    • Upgrade and standardizedata collection tools for accuracy and ease of use in the field.

  3. Data Systems & Analysis
    • Evaluate and improve systems for collecting, analyzing, and storing impact data, ensuring data security and accessibility.

    • Integrate digital solutions for real-time data tracking and reporting.

  4. Evaluations & Reporting
    • Plan and manage external evaluations for programs, projects, and ESG performance.

    • Prepare clear, data-driven reports for internal leadership, partners, investors, donors, and certification bodies.

  5. Carbon Accounting
    • Develop and maintain protocols for estimating the carbon emissions of Matis operations and interventions.

  6. Learning & Dissemination
    • Synthesize findings and disseminate evidence and lessons learned to relevant audiences, including internal teams, partners, investors, and the public.

  7. Governance & Accountability
    • Establish and support oversight and accountability mechanismsfor MEL activities, ensuring engagement from senior leadership and the Board.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Agriculture, Development Studies, Statistics, or related field(Masters preferred).

  • 35 years in Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL), impact assessment, or sustainability roles.

  • Proven experience in data analysis and producing high-quality analytical reports.

  • Strong understanding of MEL frameworks, indicator design, and data collection methods.

  • Familiarity with ESG frameworks (e.g., GRI, UN SDGs) and sustainability reporting.

  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (Excel, Power BI, or equivalent).

  • Field-based data collection experience, preferably in rural or agriculture projects.

  • Excellent written communication and presentation skills.

  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% of the time, including to rural and international project sites.
