POSITION OVERVIEW
The Manager of Risk Management manages credit policy and risk performance for Oportun’s Installment loans. This role supports improving Oportun’s core intellectual property leveraged in risk decisioning for underserved consumers that often lack a traditional credit bureau score.
This is an excellent opportunity for an individual to gain deep knowledge of installment loan business, as well as exposure to and insight from senior leaders across the risk management organization. You will be part of a fast-paced, growing, collaborative team, helping solve problems, drive impact, and deliver key insights by leveraging internal and external data.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and enhance credit strategy to support the Oportun’s Unsecured Personal Loan products
- Design strategy ramp-up with carefully calculated pace to support the growth/expansion of new loan customers and product offerings to returning customers, neither too aggressive to take on high exposure to uncertainty risk, nor too conservative to leave opportunities untapped
- Design and implement new tests to determine optimal loan size amount and term by risk segment. Optimize loan amount assignment strategy given a set of constraints and assumptions.
- Work with finance, legal & compliance, engineering and other cross functional teams to deliver strategies
- Closely monitor the credit performance of Oportun’s loan portfolio adjusting risk strategies to ensure desired loss rates
- Work with and help junior analyst
DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, Finance, or other analytical discipline (advanced degree in a quantitative discipline is a plus)
- Minimum 6+ years of experience in an Analytic role, preferably in risk management of the financial services industry
- Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to maintain the highest standard of integrity, accuracy, and precision
- Strong SQL/Python or SQL/SAS skills and experience with other programming language a plus
- Solid Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills, excellent written and oral communication skills (Spanish language is a plus)
