Programme Overview

Peepul is committed to driving systemic improvements within the public education landscape of the national capital. Working in close conjunction with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and other key government entities, our Delhi programmes aim to build the capacity of educators, streamline academic interventions, and strengthen institutional frameworks at the foundational level. This partnership focuses on rolling out scalable, high-impact initiatives that directly improve the quality of teaching and learning in MCD-administered schools.

About the role

The Senior Project Manager for the Delhi PMU is a strategic leadership role critical to the success and expansion of our partnership with the MCD.

This role goes beyond standard project execution. The ideal candidate will act as the primary catalyst for navigating the bureaucratic landscape—expertly securing necessary permissions, driving policy-level consensus, and unblocking administrative bottlenecks for the implementation team. Furthermore, as the senior leader on the ground, you will provide comprehensive guidance, mentorship, and strategic direction to the Delhi-based PMU personnel. We are looking for an individual who brings an exceptional blend of government stakeholder management, strategic vision, and team leadership to drive systemic reform.

Key Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Strategic Stakeholder Management & Securing Approvals

  • Serve as the principal liaison between Peepul and senior officials within the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and allied government departments.
  • Proactively navigate the government ecosystem to secure critical approvals, permissions, and administrative orders required for the seamless roll-out of educational interventions.
  • Lead policy advocacy efforts and build consensus, ensuring absolute alignment between the MCD's administrative goals and Peepul's programme objectives.
  • Anticipate bureaucratic challenges and devise strategic, diplomatic workarounds to maintain project momentum and safeguard team deliverables.

Team Leadership & Mentorship

  • Lead, manage, and inspire the Delhi-based Project Management Unit (PMU), fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture of trust and excellence.
  • Provide strategic direction, continuous mentorship, and day-to-day guidance to Project Managers, and Associates, working with MCD schools.
  • Establish robust work-planning systems and conduct regular reviews to ensure the team’s activities are effectively prioritized and remain on track.
  • Build the capacity of internal team members, equipping them with the skills necessary to engage effectively with local block and district-level officials.

Project Execution & Deliverables Tracking

  • Oversee the comprehensive tracking and monitoring of programme deliverables across all Delhi-based programmes, ensuring alignment with agreed timelines, quality standards, and strategic objectives.
  • Conduct regular reviews of zonal-level implementation progress and identify emerging bottlenecks, administrative challenges, or operational gaps that may impede programme delivery.
  • Provide active strategic support to the PMU team in diagnosing and resolving zonal-level challenges, including facilitating escalation to government partners where necessary and collaborating with MCD officials to unlock barriers.

Qualifications and Role Requirements:

  • Educational Background: A relevant educational background in Education, Social Sciences, Consulting, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • Work Experience: We value both professional and personal experience. Candidates with 6-8 years of experience leading and managing education-related projects, preferably within the public school system or education non-profits particularly in areas such as project management, monitoring units or educational interventions. Or experience of managing project management units for government projects. Preference will be given to candidates who also have direct classroom and teaching experience, ideally within the government school system.
  • Other Skills: Strong project management skills, including planning, implementation, and evaluation of interventions.
  • Language Proficiency: English and Hindi
